Work Areas and General Safety

  • Are all stairs, aisles, and floors kept clean and clear of potential trip hazards?

  • Are work surfaces, especially warehouse door areas dry and slip resistant?

  • Are standard rails provided on the open side of exposed stairs?

  • Are there barriers or warnings provided to prevent non-Trane associates from entering forklift or unauthorized areas?

Fire Protection

  • Are all extension cords maintained in a safe condition and have a grounding conductor?

  • Are all ladders and step ladders maintained in a safe condition?

  • When not in use, are ladders properly stored and secured from falling?

PPE (personal protective equipment)

  • Are all employees working in the warehouse wearing steel or composite toe shoes?

  • When required are safety glasses being worn?

  • When required, is proper hand protection being worn?

  • Are gloves and eye protection being worn when changing propane tanks on forklifts?

Forklifts

  • Are all lift drivers trained and certified to drive each type of lift?

  • Is each lift inspected daily or in locations that do not use the lifts daily prior to each use?

  • Are inspection logs kept on file for a minimum of 1 year?

  • Are maintenance records kept on file?

  • Are seatbelts worn by all lift operators?

  • Are propane tanks maintained in a safe condition and properly secured to the lift?

  • Are forklift secured safely when not in use?

  • Are forklift traffic signs posted?

  • LP gas storage container locked and protected against tampering?

Loading/Unloading Docks

  • Are dock plates maintained in a safe condition?

  • Are all mechanical dock plates fully operational?

  • Are all dock openings with a fall hazard greater than 4 ft from the dock to the ground protected with fall protection? (Chains or closed doors)

  • Are all trailers chocked at their wheels?

Compressed Gas Cylinders

  • Are all compressed gas cylinders upright, secure from falling?

  • Are oxygen cylinders stored at a minimum of 20 ft away from combustible fuels?

  • Cylinder storage areas have appropriate signs identifying material?

HAZCOM

  • Are all chemical containers properly labeled?

  • Is the safety data sheet(SDS) present for each material stored?

Shelving

  • Are shelves marked with max weight rating?

  • Stored material not exceeding max weight rating?

  • Loose material contained in boxes or have shrink wrap around it to keep items from falling?

  • Proper material handling devices provided to access material on shelves and pallets?

Ladders

  • Proof of documented inspection records for auditors?

  • Are all ladders formally inspected once per year?

  • Employees using ladders have had appropriate ladder training?

  • Ladders secured to prevent falling?
