Materials storage and housekeeping

  • Are materials well organised in defined areas?

  • Are housekeeping standards generally good around the site, particularly in and near main thoroughfares?

  • Are individual work areas reasonably well organised and tidy?

  • Are wheelie bins sufficient in number and well distributed around the site?

Work equipment

  • Are all stepladders industrial class 1?

  • Is portable electrical equipment PAT tested? Spot check 3 items.

  • Is woodworking equipment fitted with dust collection bags to reduce exposure to dust?

  • If mobile scaffold towers are in use, are they fitted with double handrails?

  • Have mobile scaffold towers been inspected before first use and tagged accordingly?

Working practices

  • Are all those using stepladders positioned on them with at least 3 clear rungs above their feet?

  • If stepladders are in use, are operatives facing their work?

  • If scaffold towers are in use, are brakes locked off to prevent the tower moving?

  • Where there are areas of missing floor tiles, are barriers and tape in place to demarcate the area?

Personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Are operatives wearing TSK workwear as detailed in the site induction?

  • Are operatives wearing safety footwear?

  • If operatives are using cartridge nail guns, are they wearing eye protection and ear plugs when the gun is in use?

  • Are operatives wearing eye protection and ear protection when cutting metal or wood?

  • Are gloves being used for manual handling?
