CHECKLIST of Inspection Items

  • General Safety:
    •Workplace clean, clutter minimized
    •Floors clear
    •Paths of egress unobstructed
    •Slip/Trip/Fall Hazards
    •Stairways/sidewalks/ramps free of defects (e.g. damaged treads, frayed carpet)
    •Lighting is adequate
    •All chemical/waste containers properly labeled
    •Stored materials are secure & limited in height to prevent collapse.
    •Bookcases/cabinets/shelves/racks/cages and similar items over four feet tall are anchored to the wall.
    •Large/heavy objects are stored on lower shelves or storage areas.
    •Electrical cords/plugs/switches/outlets are in good working condition with proper grounding.
    •Extension cords and power strips are not daisy-chained and no permanent extension cords in use.
    •Portable electric heaters have at least 3 ft of clearance from combustible materials (e.g. paper).
    •All Wet Floor Signs are in proper place.
    •Emergency phones are in good working order.
    •No obvious signs of leaking or damage under each sink or water source.

    Fire Safety:
    •Emergency exit signs are lit properly.
    •Fire alarms and fire extinguishers are visible and accessible.
    •Fire extinguishers are serviced annually.
    •Fire extinguishers pressure gauges are in the green.
    •Fire doors (e.g. in stairways) are kept closed unless equipped with automatic closing device.
    •18" vertical clearance is maintained below all sprinkler heads.
    •Corridors and stairways are kept free of obstruction and not used for storage.
    •Fire sprinkler escutcheons (rings) are in place.
    •Fire alarm speakers/strobes are secure and flush with ceiling.
    •Fire exit lights light up when test button is pushed.

    Machine Safety (if applicable):
    •Equipment and machines are clean and working properly.
    •Adequate ventilation is provided to machines for preventing buildup of heat or gas emissions.
    •Emergency stop switches on machines are identified and in proper working order.

    Other cosmetic defects (holes in wall, etc.) may be recorded, but focus should be mainly on Safety-related items.
