1. USE OF CHEMICALS

  • Has an environmental risk assessment of all chemicals used on the site been under taken?

  • Is there an inventory of all chemicals used on the site?

  • Are there documented routines for storage, use and disposal of chemicals?

  • Is there a documented process for introducing new chemicals?

  • Are chemicals stored in a manner to prevent release to the external environment (i.e. stormwater, land, air)?

  • Are chemical containers stored undercover and on a sealed concrete surface?

  • Is contaminated water contained and disposed of correctly according to legislative requirements?

  • Is there any evidence of spills or leaks from vehicles (i.e. oil, coolant or diesel)?

  • Are spills / leaks from vehicles removed using absorbent materials & disposed of correctly?

  • Are batteries stored undercover and in a sealed area?

  • Is equipment serviced regularly and no grease, oil or other chemicals contaminating soil?

  • Are all equipment cleaned down and no evidence of oil or grease leaking from equipment?

5. EMISSIONS TO WATER

  • Is all washing of vehicles undertaken in a sealed area with no release to stormwater?

  • Is any washing down of work area undertaken on site?

  • Are storm water drains kept clear and no blockages from parts, pallets, drums etc?

  • Is there any evidence of chemicals entering storm water drains?

  • Are drains and grates to trade waste kept clear and cleaned out on a regular basis?

  • Are process effluents sent directly to sewer for treatment?

  • Is trade waste system on a regular monitoring and clean out program?

  • Are records kept of trade waste clean out and easily located?

6. WASTE MANGEMENT

  • Is there sorting at source of all relevant waste streams and monitoring of quantities?

  • Is waste cardboard / paper clean, sorted and recycled by waste contractor?

  • Are waste chemicals, i.e. oils, coolant & paint sorted, sealed and treated by licensed waste contractor?

  • Are waste oil filters and soiled rags sorted and treated by a licensed waste contractor?

  • Are waste paints, oils and coolants sealed in drums and stored in a bunded area?

  • Is there evidence of waste contaminating other materials that are sorted for recycling?

  • Are external areas swept regularly and waste materials placed in bags before being placed in general waste?

  • Are used batteries stored in / on a bund under cover and removed by a licensed waste contractor?

7. NOISE

  • Is external noise limited to 60dB (A) at the nearest residential property?

  • Is there unwanted release of noise to the external environment from workplace?

8. SPILL PROCEDURES

  • Is spill equipment located in the designated areas and contain the correct spill material?

  • Is spill absorbent removed after containing a spill at the site?

  • Do spill kits adequately cover whole site should an incident occur?

  • Are employees advised of spill procedures and trained in spill control?

  • Are all emergency equipment easily accessible and location well signposted?

9. ORGANISATION

  • Is there an environmental representative to report / communicate with external bodies (i.e. EPA, Local Government, Council Inspector)?

  • Are environmental incidents reported to management and documented in site records?

  • Does the organisation asses the environmental impacts of new projects (i.e. undertake an environmental risk assessment)?

  • Does the organisation have the company environmental policy located at the main entrance or other prominent location?

  • Does the organisation require major suppliers to perform an environmental self assessment (i.e. VCVA’s PQP7)?

  • Does the organisation maintain appropriate licences and permits applicable to the site ( i.e. trade waste license, development approval )
