Warehouse Operations

  • 1. Is there safe clearance for equipment through aisles and doors?

  • 2. Are aisles wide enough for all MHE to operate effectively including loading and unloading palletized racks?

Ladders

  • 4. Are wooden ladders unpainted to prevent hiding damage/cracks in the wood?

  • 5. Are the joints between the steps and side rails tight, all hardware, and fittings securely attached, and do the movable parts operate freely without binding or undue movement?

  • 6. Do stepladder spreaders or locking devices securely hold the front and back sections in the open position?

Chemical Safety

  • 1. Are solvent-based glues, wood finishes, and thinners and other hazardous chemicals kept in appropriate containers that are properly labeled?

  • 2. Are flammable liquids properly stored in approved flammable liquid storage cabinets when not in use?

  • 3. When flammable or toxic chemicals are in use, is the ventilation adequate to ensure that vapor concentrations do not buildup in the shop?

  • 4. Are compressed gas cylinders stored in an outside roofed cage or otherwise secured against tipping over?

  • 5. Are “No Smoking – No Ignition Sources” signs posted where flammable materials are stored or used (indoors and outdoors)?

Electrical Safety

  • 1. Are electrical machinery and appliances grounded?

  • 4. Are all disconnecting switches and circuit breakers labeled to indicate their use or equipment served?

  • 5. Do all interior wiring systems include provisions for grounding metal parts of electrical raceways, equipment, and enclosures?

  • 6. Are all electrical conduits, raceways and enclosures securely fastened in place?

  • 7. Are all energized parts of electrical circuits and equipment guarded against accidental contact by proper cabinets or enclosures?

  • 8. Is sufficient access and working space provided and maintained around all electrical panels (36 ins.) and equipment to permit adequate access for maintenance?

  • 9. Are all unused openings (including knockouts) in electrical enclosures and fittings closed with appropriate covers, plugs or plates?

Housekeeping

  • 1. Are walking surfaces kept dry or appropriate means taken to assure the surfaces are slip-resistant?

  • 2. Are walking surfaces free of debris?

  • 3. Are all spilled hazardous materials or liquids, cleaned up immediately and according to proper procedures?

  • 4. Is scrap, debris and waste stored safely and removed from the worksite promptly?

Warehouse Vehicle Safety

  • 1. Are there enough seatbelts for all workers riding in the vehicle?

  • 2. Are workers prohibited from riding in the back of a vehicle with the inventory?

  • 3. Is inventory properly secured inside the truck?

  • 4. Does the truck have a hydraulic lift gate?

  • 5. Are vehicles properly inspected and maintained?

  • 6. Are truck tires chocked when in the parked position for both off- and on-loading?
