General Inspection

General Health & Safety

Fire

  • Are all fire exits, call points, alarms and equipment clear from obstruction and unlocked?

  • Have the required fire alarm and emergency lighting tests been completed?

  • Have the required evacuation drills been carried out?

  • Are fire extinguishers and blankets in the correct place, with correct signage and within their maintenance period?

  • Is fire signage in place (Fire Exits, 'in the event of fire' signs)?

  • Is waste stored appropriately?

First aid and accidents

  • Are 'in the event of an accident' signs displayed across the site?

  • Is the Accident Report Book available?

Racking & Storeage

  • Are all racked products stored safely (e.g. no excessive overhang)?

  • Are all non-racked products stored safely (e.g. not tilting, leaning or at risk of falling, and no more than 4 pallets high)

  • Is the racking adequately secured to the floor?

  • Is suitable protection provided for racking corner uprights (and painted in a conspicuious colour)?

  • Are maximum loads clearly marked on racking?

  • Is racking in good order?

  • Has any damage to any racking been reported in the month?

Forklifts

  • Are all drivers properly trained?

  • Is forklift warning signage displayed on entrances to the warehouse?

  • Have daily forklift checklists been filled in satisfactorily?

Battery Charging Area

  • Is this area clearly marked and clear from combustible materials and to a 2m radius?

  • Are appropriate warning signs displayed?

  • Is suitable PPE available for use during battery maintenance operations?

  • Are suitable eye wash facilities available?

Trucks

  • Is the ministry plate displayed in all vehicles?

  • Valid operator's licence disc on display in all vehicles?

  • Copy of current insurance certificate in all vehicles?

  • Are drivers holding the correct amount of tachgraph data?

  • Maintenance plans in place for all vehicles?

  • Have tachographs been audited?

  • Are all trucks clean inside and out?

  • Have all tail-lifts been thoroughly examined at least every 6 months?
