Scaffolding

  • Suitable baseplates in place?

  • Platforms fully boarded and wide enough for the work and for access (at least 600mm wide)

  • Is the gap between boards less than 50mm?

  • Are all boards free from damage/ wear & tear and in a suitable position?

  • Toe boards sufficient to prevent falls and any material or objects rolling or being kicked off the edge of the platform?

  • Are all braces and tie ins suitably placed both vertically and horizontally to prevent tipping?

  • Is the gap between the scaffold board and the structure less than 225mm?

  • Are suitable guardrails in place (top guard rail at least 950mm above any edge from which people are liable to fall)

  • Sufficient number of intermediate guard rails or suitable alternatives positioned so that the unprotected gap does not exceed 470 mm?

  • Is the scaffolding and access ladder displaying a valid inspection tag (inspected by a competent person within the last 7 days)?

  • Does the access ladder exceed at least 1 meter past the landing platform?

  • Scaffold access gate in a suitable position and in good working order?

  • Loading bays fitted with fall protection, preferably gates, which can be safely moved in and out of position to place materials on the platform?

  • Are loading bays suitable for the materials stored and displaying a SWL where required?

  • Access ladders fully secured when not in use to prevent unauthorised access?

Tools & Equipment

  • All tools and equipment free of damage and in good working order?

  • All tools and equipment suitable for the tasks undertaken e.g. Tools conforming to VDE standards when working with with electricity?

  • All electrical tools & equipment displaying a valid PA test sticker (within the last 6 months)?

  • Condition of access equipment such as ladders and hop-ups?

  • All access equipment including ladders and hop-ups displaying a valid inspection sticker (inspected within the last 3 months)?

PPE

  • Suitable Hi-Vis worn and in acceptable condition?

  • Suitable Hard Hat worn where required and in acceptable condition?

  • Suitable safety boots worn and in acceptable condition?

  • Suitable RPE being worn where required (e.g. when handling hazardous materials/substances)? RPE including filter in acceptable condition?

  • Suitable gloves being worn when required (e.g. When handling hazardous materials/substances, anti cut gloves when using tools such as the Stanley Trimming Knife)?

  • All other PPE such as safety glasses/goggles and ear defenders being worn correctly when required and in a suitable condition?

H&S Documentation

  • H&S documentation available to site team including: Risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments, incident procedures and asbestos procedures?

  • Construction phase plan and asbestos survey reports available to site team where required?

  • Permit to work system adopted where required?

  • Site register available and filled out correctly?
