  • Advice and Control-'Means of escape' is a continuous and unobstructed way of travel from any point in the work place to a place of safety.These include door,corridor and fire exits.

  • Escape routes an be identified by pictograms showings the running person,an open door and directional arrows.In some countries text signs may augment these.There should be unobstructed views of pictograms and text signs indicating the escape routes.

  • Escape routes must never be obstructed.Obstruction may include unwanted furniture,delivered goods,goods awaiting collection or rubbish.Procedures shall be in place for regular checks of workplace,removal of obstructions and disposal of waste.

  • A place of safety is a location away from the workplace in which a person is no longer in danger from fire.This area must be easily and safely accessible and must not be enclosed.There shall be an emergency plan in place and staff informed.

  • Under normal circumstances a fire risk assessment shall be carried out annually.However,the review period may be reduced following changes in the workplace.A fire risk assessment of the workplace shall be carried out following the introduction of new materials,processes,machinery,structural alteration,internal changes to the premises or a result in an assent being reviewed earlier than originally planned.
