AREA: WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY

  • The Work Health and Safety Policy has been reviewed and updated within the last 12 months

  • All Staff and educators have signed the WHS policy, acknowledging they have read and understand their role and responsibilities when implementing the policy

  • Work Health and Safety Policy is relevant and up to date with current legislation and changes

  • Health and Safety requirements are clearly communicated with staff – posters, notices, information etc.

  • Management, Educational Leader and Room Leaders are up to date with current WHS requirements, attending relevant training in WHS obligations

  • Management, Educational Leaders and Room Leaders are aware of their WHS obligations

  • Work Health and Safety issues and concerns are discussed at staff meetings

  • There are clear procedures for dealing with work health and safety issues/concerns

  • There is documented evidence that training needs are reviewed, evaluated and updated as required

  • Induction training is conducted for all workers appropriate to their job role and responsibilities

  • There is a proficient communication system in place to discuss WHS matters

  • There is a clear procedure that outlines roles and responsibilities when dealing with hazards and risks and when to use a risk management approach

  • Employees wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) -clothing and footwear

AREA: INDOOR AND OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT

  • Sign in/out records are clearly displayed for families

  • There is a clear procedure if a parent has not signed their child in/out of the Service

  • Floor surfaces are clear of obstacles and free of trips, slips and fall risks

  • Ramps and stairs are clear of obstacles

  • Railing on stairs is in good repair (if applicable)

  • Fire Exits are clear, undamaged with illumination/lighting working

  • There is adequate lighting

  • Fire Extinguishers have been tested and are compliant

  • Photocopier has been serviced and is well ventilated

  • Filing cabinets with confidential information is kept locked

  • Bookcases and cabinets are in good repair

  • Storerooms are kept tidy and are in appropriate working manner

  • Service is clean and well organised

  • Windows are clean and able to be locked

  • Chairs provide adequate back support and are in good repair

  • There are no hanging electrical cords

  • Evacuation Rehearsals/Drills are implemented on a regular basis

  • Employee induction and staff records are up to date

  • Hand washing procedures and visual posters are displayed in all bathrooms (including children and staff bathrooms)

  • Floor signs are used when the floor is wet

  • Daily cleaning records are kept up to date

  • Children are supervised indoors and outdoors

  • Outdoor Safety Checklist are kept up to date

  • Chairs are stacked at a safe height (no more than 4)

  • Children and Staff toilets are kept clean

  • Water Play is supervised (a child is never left unsupervised near water)

  • Cupboards have child proof locks

  • Nappy Change area has Personal Protective Equipment

  • Poison signs on cupboards where chemicals are located

  • Cupboards where chemicals may be stored are locked at all times

  • Chemicals are kept out of reach of children at all times

  • Record of toys that have been disinfected are up to date

  • Mouthed toys basket is kept separate for washing

  • Children’s dietary requirements are clearly visible and up to date

  • Climbing equipment is stable and has no hard objects in fall zone

  • Power points have safety plugs when not in use

  • Electrical tagging has been updated (moved from service perimeter section)

  • Toys and equipment are in good working condition

  • UV Rating is recorded and displayed daily

  • Employees wear appropriate clothing and footwear (including sunsafe hats)

AREA: ROADS AND CARPARKS

  • Families and staff educate children on road safety when arriving and departing the Service

  • There is clear pedestrian access and compliance in the car park for families, children, staff and visitors

  • Any trees surrounding the Service are clear from overhanging/dead branches

  • Lighting surrounding the Service is adequate

  • The car park is free from potential hazards

  • Pathways are clear of slip/trip/fall hazards

  • Fencing is in good repair and adequate height

  • Gates are in good repair (child proof catches, self-closing)

  • Timber surfaces are safe (no splinters)

  • Gutters/drainage is in good repair, free from leaks and slips hazards

  • Lawns and gardens are well maintained

  • Plants are safe and non-toxic

AREA: SERVICE PERIMETER

  • Fencing is in good repair and adequate height

  • Gates are in good repair (child proof catches, self-closing)

  • Timber surfaces are safe (no splinters)

  • Gutters/drainage is in good repair, free from leaks and slips hazards

  • Lawns and gardens are well maintained

  • Plants are safe and non-toxic
