Accessibility

  • Take a photo of the fire extinguisher and its storage location from within a few feet.

  • Is the fire extinguisher easily visible?

  • Is there adequate signage above the fire extinguisher?

  • Is the fire extinguisher elevated from the ground?

  • Is the fire extinguisher's immediate surrounding free from obstruction?

  • Is the fire extinguisher easily removable from its bracket/container? (For fire extinguishers inside glass cabinets, it is alright to not move them anymore)

  • Is the locking pin present and intact?

  • Is the seal present and not broken? (The seal's material can be plastic or metal)

Pressure Gauge

  • Locate the pressure gauge at the top of the cylinder. Here is an example of a pressure gauge.

    rsz_1rsz_img20190205111545.jpg
  • Is the pressure gauge pointed within the optimal green range [refer image above]?

  • For a quick fix: Sometimes, the pressure gauge is in the red because of the chemical having settled down in the cylinder. Try fixing this by removing the fire extinguisher from its bracket/container (if allowed), carefully turn it upside down twice (refer to image attached), and shake it well. Check if the gauge indicator goes back to green.
