Power

  • Grinding machines have adequate power to maintain spindle speed at safe levels under all normal operating conditions.

Guarding

  • The safety guard covers the spindle end, nut and flange projections.

  • The safety guard is mounted so as to maintain proper alignment with the wheel.

External Grinding Wheels

  • Floor stand and bench mounted abrasive wheels used for external grinding are provided with safety guards (protection hoods).

  • The maximum angular exposure of the grinding wheel periphery and sides is not more than 90 degrees and starts no more than 65 degrees above the horizontal plane of the spindle.

  • If work requires contact with the wheel below the horizontal plane of the spindle, the angular exposure of the wheel must not exceed 125 degrees.

  • Safety guards are strong enough to withstand the effect of a bursting wheel.

  • Floor and bench mounted have work rests which are rigidly supported and readily adjustable.

  • Work rest is not more than one eighth inch from the wheel surface.

General Safety

  • New wheels are closely inspected and ring tested before installation.

  • All employees using abrasive wheels are required to use eye protection.
