    Obligations
    Management is firmly committed to a policy enabling all work activities to be carried out safely, and with all possible measures taken to remove (or at least reduce) risks to the health, safety and welfare of workers, contractors, authorised visitors, and anyone else who may be affected by our operations.

    We are committed to ensuring all site visitors go home unharmed at the end of the day.

    Responsibilities
    ◻ Management:
    Will provide and maintain as far as possible:
    • a safe working environment
    • safe systems of work
    • plant and substances in safe condition
    • information, instruction, training and supervision that is reasonably necessary to ensure that each worker is safe from injury and risks to health
    • a commitment to consult and co-operate with workers in all matters relating to health and safety in the workplace
    • a commitment to continually improve our performance through effective safety management.
    ◻ Workers:
    Each worker has an obligation to:
    • comply with safe work practices, with the intent of avoiding injury to themselves and others and damage to plant and equipment
    • take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and others
    • wear personal protective equipment and clothing where necessary
    • comply with any direction given by management for health and safety
    • not misuse or interfere with anything provided for health and safety
    • report all accidents and incidents on the job immediately, no matter how trivial
    • report all known or observed hazards to their supervisor or manager.
    Application of this policy
    We seek the co-operation of all workers, customers and other persons. We encourage suggestions for realising our health and safety objectives to create a safe working environment with a zero accident rate.

    This policy applies to all business operations and functions, including those situations where workers are required to work off-site.

  • Health and Safety Pack on site: Site Pack containing a Site Specific Safety Plan for the job on site, along with a hazard board?

  • Public Protection: Signage is correctly in place and updated, fencing and barricades are in installed.

  • Induction: All workers (including contractors) have been inducted and signed in.

  • Task Analysis: Does each contractor on site have their own Task Analysis for the work they are doing?

  • Emergencies and Health: There is a first aid kit and fire extinguisher available on site.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) : The appropriate PPE is being worn, is in good condition and used correctly. Head/ face, hearing/eye, skin, footwear and protective clothing.

  • Working at height: Appropriate fall protection is in place as per the working at height guideline. Protection such as scaffold, working platform, edge protection etc are in place and fall through protection eg mobile platforms, podium ladders, soft landing systems are also in place where required. If harnesses are being used, staff must be formally trained.

  • Electricity: There are tagged and tested RCDs in place. All leads are tagged and tested (3monthly) and are in good condition eg no temporary repairs or exposed wires. All are clear of walkways, high traffic areas and water.

  • Hand and Power tools: Staff have been trained in their use. Tools are in good condition and are being maintained. Guards and isolation devices are in place where applicable.

  • Excavations: Check that all the soil appear stable, there is no water accumulation in the excavation and existing services (electrical, sewer, gas, water) have been located and isolated (turned off). There are no objects or material stacked within 600mm from from the edge, trenching over 1.5m has been notified (to WorkSafe NZ) and shoring is in place. Excavations/Open trenches are listed on hazard board.

  • Site Housekeeping: The site is clear of debris/rubbish, there are no trips hazards, there is clear access to work areas and waste bins are on site and being used.

  • Mobile Plant: (eg large excavators) The operator is protected by a roll cage, wearing a seat belt, guards are in place. The existing services have been marked and pedestrians and visitors are kept clear.
