Cable Jointing Work <br>

Workplace, Tools & Equipment

  • Is the joint hole the correct size and safe to work in?

  • Are all excavations correctly shuttered or battered where required?

  • Are the correct tools available I.e. insulated tools, plastic hack knife, heatshrink blowlamp etc?

  • Is all relevant test equipment available and tested, I.e. Test lamp, tester-scope, phase rotation meter, Insulation resistance tester, multimeter/voltmeter, earth loop impedance tester.

  • Are the correct materials available, in good condition and align to Adopting Utility Requirements?

  • Is Spiking Gun in good condition and in date re service schedule?

Work Practices

  • Is the jointing work carried out to Adopting Utility instructions - ?

  • Is PPE sufficient for Work?

  • Are the correct 'Live Working' procedures being used? (RA includes Sanction for Live Working)

  • Is the earth maintained and shrouding used on exposed live conductors?

  • Is the cable stripped and prepared correctly? (Cleaned using correct solvent/wipes)

  • Have the cable cores been insulated correctly? (shrouded for work on 1 ph at a time?)

  • Are the correct cable connectors used?

  • Is the 'Cold Pour' jointing resin mixed correctly?

  • Is the joint shell/box sealed correctly?

  • Have polarity/rotation checks been completed and recorded?

  • Has a Safety Document been issued correctly and Accepted by Recipient?
