Pre-work Requirements

  • Is the site tidy and materials stored safely?

  • Is lighting adequate in all areas?

Welfare

  • Are toilets readily available and are they clean and properly lit?

  • Are there washbasins, hot, and cold (or warm) running water soap and towels?

  • Are the washbasins large enough to wash up to the elbow and are they kept clean?

  • Is there somewhere to change, dry and store clothing?

  • Is there somewhere workers can sit, make hot drinks and preparing food?

  • Is drinking water and cups provided?

  • Can everyone that is required to access the welfare facilities do so safely?

Scaffolding

  • Are mobile scaffolds erected, altered and dismantled by competent people?

  • Are all the working platforms fully boarded and are the boards arranged to avoid tipping or tripping?

  • Is the mobile scaffolding strong enough to carry the weight of materials stored on it and evenly distributed?

  • Are the mobile scaffolds in Google condition and suitably maintained?

  • Is the mobile scaffolding inspected by a competent person at least once a week?

  • Is the mobile scaffolding being used to manufacturers instructions and guidelines?

  • Are the wheels of the mobile scaffolding been locked when in use and are the platforms empty when being moved?

Ladders

  • Are the ladders right for the job?<br>(Ladders should not be used if there is a safer way to do the required job)

  • Are the ladders in good condition?

  • Are the ladders resting against a solid surface and not fragile or insecure materials?

  • Are the ladders secured to stop them slipping sideways.

  • Do the ladders rise a sufficient height above their landing place?<br>(If not, are there other handholds available)

  • Are the ladders positioned so that users do not have to overstretch?

Powered Access Equipment

  • Has the equipment been installed by a competent person?

  • Are the operators trained and competent?

  • Is the safe working load clearly marked?

  • Is the equipment inspected by a competent person?

  • Does the working platform of the powered access equipment have adequate secure guard handrails and toe boards or other barriers to prevent people and materials falling?

  • Are precautions in place to prevent people from being struck by,; the moving platform, projections from the building or falling materials?

Traffic. Vehicles & Plant

  • Are vehicles and pedestrians kept apart?

  • Are plant vehicles properly maintained?

  • Are operators trained and certificated for the plant vehicles they are operating?

  • Are all loads properly secured?

  • Are plant vehicles being used on dangerous slopes or uneven ground?

Excavations

  • Is there adequate support for the excavation, or has it been slopped or battered back to a safe angle?

  • Is there a safe method used for putting in the support, without people working in an unsupported trench?

  • Are there barriers to prevent people and vehicles from falling in?

  • Are properly secured stop blocks to prevent tipping vehicles falling in?

  • Are materials and plant stored away from from the edge of the excavation to reduce the chance of collapse?

  • Is the excavation regularly inspected by a competent person?

Manual Handling

  • Are there any materials that could cause problems if they were moved by hand?

  • Have people been instructed and trained to lift safely?

  • Are people using correct lifting techniques?

  • Are people that are lifting abnormal or loads over 25kg using a two person lift to move the load?

  • Are people that need to move a load more than a few feet using lifting aids?

Hazardous Substances

  • Has hazardous substances even identified on site?

  • Do the waste containers contain segregated waste?

  • Are removal contractors licensed to remove the waste form site
