CSL Gemba Walk

  • Who are you observing?

  • What task are you observing? Be sure to observe the entire situation/process and see what’s really happening, and evaluate how do people act and work. How do they process their tasks and make sure quality is assured?

  • Was the task performed per SOP?

  • What was the error/deviation?

  • Act on Deviations/Errors. When a deviation is seen or a possibility to improve is seen and can be picked up immediately, do it. Do not wait to act, and ensure employee has understanding and is able to verbalize correct process. Discuss with the leadership team, to ensure continued check of processing. If there was a deviation, what steps were taken to remediate the situation? Document discussion notes.

  • Ask open questions Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, discussion of happy path and non happy path situations. Document your notes.

  • Make sure that you always give the employees feedback on their input/performance. Explain "the why" to ensure understanding around any items that were discussed for consideration but not implemented. Document discussions on feedback given.

  • Ask for feedback/input for improvement Keep individuals engaged, take feedback on issues they may be having, questions they are not sure of, and provide appropriate responses or escalation to management. Remind all staff, if they are not sure of the process to stop and ask for help from their manager/supervisor. Document your notes.
