Information - Does the site have an identification board containing the opening hours, contact details for the EA and Council

Access and Parking - Staff and Visitors, public access for unloading, for operational plant and HGV's

Security and Restrictions - Gates and fencing, outside security CCTV, access for HWM staff

Warning signs and instructions

Office facilities - Heating, lighting, telephone, toilet and washing facilities

Housekeeping - collection of wind blown litter and keeping site tidy

Waste

Permitted and not permitted waste signage

Waste Reception - Visual checks on permitted waste only, guide to relevant locations, trade waste disclaimer

Control of waste - Kept in specified locations or skips, segregation for reuse/ recycling

Hazardous waste - Bunding of liquid waste, impermeable surfaces, enclosed skips for asbestos and fluorescent tubes, secure compound for gas bottles, covered area for lead acid batteries, separate area for household and garden chemicals.

Non hazardous waste - Sort for reuse or recycling, dispose of by approved contractors using form IF 35

Additional space for emergency storage

Non conforming waste, sort or dispose (rejection procedure)

Monitoring and Maintenance

Weighbridge calibration if applicable

Site diary record of:- Hazardous waste disposed, septic tank pumping, asbestos and clinical waste, dust and odour checks, accidents and incidents, plant breakdown, visitors.

Waste records - Quantities, destination, type, transport.

Visits - HWM staff, DCC, RRS, local authority, EA, HSE

Site checks - Plant checks and defect reports, daily inspections.

Emergency Procedures

Fire Controls - Fire fighting equipment, fire drills, fire emergency procedure

Pollution Prevention - Drainage of rainwater, no waste burning, dust suppression by water spraying

First Aid - Sufficient trained individuals, first aid equipment

Pest Control

Emergency contact numbers available

Accident reporting, incident reporting

Sufficient lighting for dark nights

Sufficient salt for de-icing purposes

Staff and management rota available

Drugs and alcohol testing undertaken by HWM staff

Visitors - Induction given, sign in diary, issued safety instructions

Traffic Management - Cones and barrier available, routes marked, vehicles permitted, check permits (council issue)

Risk assessments available for all activities, signed off by the staff.

Contractor control - Booking in system, induction given, permits to work issued, risk assessment and SSOW provided.

PPE - Issue record signed for, correct use, site rules issue record, training given and recorded.
