General Housekeeping

  • NFPA 1 19.1.2 No person owning or having control of any property shall allow any combustible material to accumulate in any area or in any manner that creates a fire hazard to life or property.

  • NFPA 1 19.1.3 Combustible waste or refuse shall be properly stored or disposed of to prevent unsafe conditions.

  • NFPA 1 19.2.1.6 Approved metal receptacles with self-closing covers shall be provided for the storage or disposal of oil-soaked waste or cloths.

NFPA 1 10.19* Combustible Materials.

  • NFPA 1 10.19.1 Storage of combustible materials shall be orderly.

  • NFPA 1 10.19.4 Combustible material shall not be stored in near exits.

NFPA 1 11.1 Electrical Fire Safety.

  • NFPA 1 11.1.5 Extension cords shall not be used as a substitute for permanent wiring.

  • NFPA 1 11.1.5.3.1 Extension cords shall be plugged directly into an approved receptacle, power tap, or multiplug adapter and shall, except for approved multiplug extension cords, serve only one portable appliance.

  • NFPA 1 11.1.5.3.5 Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be affixed to structures; extend through walls, ceilings, or floors, or under doors or floor coverings; or be subject to environmental or physical damage.

NFPA 1 13.6 Portable Extinguishers.

  • NFPA 1 13.6.3.3 Fire extinguishers shall be conspicuously located where they will be readily accessible and immediately available in the event of fire. Preferably, they shall be located along normal paths of travel, including exits from areas. [NFPA 10:1.5.3]

  • NFPA 1 13.6.3.10 Fire extinguishers having a gross weight not exceeding 40 lb (18.14 kg) shall be installed so that the top of the fire extinguisher is not more than 5 ft (1.53 m) above the floor. [NFPA 10:1.5.10]
