Checklist

General

  • Is the site risk assessment correct? All major hazards identified and risk controlled appropriately

  • Is all required equipment fit for the task

  • Has the engineer got the correct accreditations (NRWSA, SA001)?

PPE & Harness

  • Is PPE being worn correctly and appropriate for the works being conducted?

  • Is the harness, belt and lanyard free of cuts or other damage?<br>

Ladder

  • Is ladder inspected prior to use

SLG

  • Has consideration been given to passing MOPs and vehicles and an adequate exclusion/drop zone been put in place?

Bringing Tools and Equipment to Work Area

Pre Climb Checks

  • Person being checked demonstrates an ability to be able to check all items of the safety belt?All elements of safety belt are fit for use?<br>

  • Pole has been inspected and tested before climbing and pole climb Label attached

  • Is there any sign of damage to the pole? (Damage caused by hedge trimming, vehicle damage, Vandalism etc.)

  • Is the pole in date to climb?

  • Can at least three quarters of the circumference of the pole be seen and tested?

  • Is there a D, SC, SD, H or Z tag?

  • D = Defective (Decay) DO NOT CLIMB
    SC= Shallow climbable SD= Shallow depth (THESE POLES SHOULD NOT BE CLIMBED)
    H + Z = Hazard near the pole, if an engineer can safely position their ladder in such a way to reduce the hazard then the pole can be climbed.

Climbing/Descending

  • Are the Pole steps checked; feet engaged on steps correctly?

  • Is the Correct method of climbing pole using safety belt 11 used?

  • Are Work position belt correctly fastened to harness?

  • Is Lanyard correctly positioned and locked off?

  • Is Correct method for turning at pole top

  • Is Work position belt correctly fastened to harness? Lanyard correctly positioned and locked off?
