RayChem ElectroMelt System Installation Inspection (Answer all questions Do Not Leave Any Blanks)

Prior to concrete pour, perform ONLY the Visual Inspecition and Isulation Resistance Tests. After concrete pour performed all tests. Prior to concrete pour, perform ONLY the Visual Inspecition and Isulation Resistance Tests. After concrete pour performed all tests.

  • Enter Circuit Number

  • Enter Heating cable type

Insulation resistance test M-Ohms

  • Enter Circuit length

Perform Visual Inspection

  • Confirm 30-mA ground-fault device marked for proper rating.

  • Enter description/explanation of Ground-fault device markings (Make and Model).

  • If possible, take a picture showing CB/GFI markings.

  • Visually inspect inside of heating cable components and connection boxes for proper installations, overheating, corrosion, moisture, loose connections, or other problems. Are there any problems?

  • Enter description/explanation of problem or problems.

  • If possible, take a picture showing problems.

  • Visually inspect for proper electrical connection of ground, braid, and bus wires. Do any connections fail?

  • Enter description/explanation of problem or problems.

  • If possible, take a picture showing problems.

  • Visually inspect insulation over full length of ground cable and bus wires. Is there any damage?

  • Enter description/explanation of damage.

  • If possible, take a picture showing problems.

  • Check controllers and monitoring systems for moisture, corrosion, set point, switch operation, capillary damage, and protection. Are there any problems?

  • Enter description/explanation of damage.

  • If possible, take a picture showing problems.

  • Check for damaged or wet thermal insulation; damaged, missing or cracked lagging and weather-proofing; gaps in caulking.

  • Enter description/explanation of damage.

  • If possible, take a picture showing problems.

  • Check covered End Seals, Splices, and Tees are Properly labeled on insulation cladding<br>

Insulation resistance test M-Ohms

Bus to Braid Megohm Test (Attach + lead across both bus wires, attach – lead to braid/pigtail.) Note: Insulation resistance values for test for any particular circuit, should not vary more than 25% as a function of measuring voltage. Greater variances may indicate a problem with heat-tracing system.

  • Set Megohm to perform 500 VDC test and test the cable. Turn on voltage after 1 minute, select Pass or Fail and record reading. NOTE: RAPID MAXIMUM DEFLECTION INDICATES A SHORT.

  • Enter reading.

  • Set Megohm to perform 1000 VDC test and test the cable. . Turn on voltage after 1 minute, select Pass or Fail and record reading. NOTE: RAPID MAXIMUM DEFLECTION INDICATES A SHORT.

  • Enter reading.

  • Set Megohm to perform 2500 VDC test and test the cable. . Turn on voltage after 1 minute, select Pass or Fail and record reading. NOTE: RAPID MAXIMUM DEFLECTION INDICATES A SHORT.

  • Enter reading.

Circuit length verification - (Set Cmeter to 200 nF range. Attach Cmeter lead across both bus wires, attach + lead to braid/pigtail.)

Use this formula to verify circuit length matches drawing. Circuit length (Ft/m) = Capacitance (measured in nF) x Capacitance factor [5.2 Ft/nF or 1.6 m/nF]

  • Ft = nF x 5.2 Is Cmeter reading within range on the 200 nF scale?

  • Ener nF from capacitance meter.

  • Ener calculted circuit lenght.

Power Check

  • Test for correct circuit voltage at panel. Measure VAC.

  • Enter reading.

  • After heater has been on for 30 minutes, measure circuit current via clamp-on current probe. Measure Amps.

  • Enter reading.

  • Confirm ground-fault device functions properly. Press Test button, does device trip?

  • Enter description/explanation of device functionality (wether Pass or Fail).

  • If feasible take a picture showing CB/GFI triped.
