Emergency Evacuation Warden Training Checklist

  • Central point for storage of all hats and 2-way radio where applicable.

  • Identification of tones- where to stand by, awaiting instructions, proceeding to the Assembly Point and not allowing staff to go the toilet etc, when to evacuate.

  • Use of WIP Phone (if applicable) - how and when to use.

  • Roles and responsibilities (Health and Safety Directives HSP160)

  • Warden gives directions - reminder no mobile phones during evacuation, no taking hot drinks and no smoking. Keys, wallet and handbag are ok to remove but no other items, to avoid trip hazards etc. when evacuating, do not leave the precinct. Offer information regarding procedures.

  • Absence of Floor Warden and Wardens - Procedures in place.

  • Delegation of tasks to member of the area evacuation team eg. Check toilets & meetings rooms.

  • Staged evacuations (where whole building is not required).

  • Activation of fire doors (when to evacuate if doors do not activate in your area).

  • Types of evacuation (not necessarily a fire).

  • Identification of External Assembly Point.

  • Ensuring evacuation to correct External Assembly Point.

  • Crossing road - traffic control (where applicable).

  • Evacuation Warden's role whilst at the External Assembly Point.

  • Communication Officer's role whilst at the External Assembly Point.

  • Informing/reminding staff in area of procedures.

  • Emergency Evacuation PowerPoint presentation on the Intranet.
