  • Are there accessible first aid kits onsite?

Site Facilities

  • Are offices clean and tidy?

  • Are Smoko sheds clean?

  • Who mess is it?

  • Are the tool sheds organised and tidy?

  • Are the toilets clean?

General site tidiness

  • In this section walk around the site. If you see any hazards or rubbish in pathways clean it up immediately. Take notes on which sites need a clean up.

  • Are there clear and safe accesses to work areas? (Check entrances into houses and access to sites, also, check access onto scaffolds)

  • Which sites have unsafe access ways?

  • Is there any material that could get blown away in wind? (check pods, roofing iron, paper etc.)

  • Which sites are these on and which contractor is responsible?

  • Are the lay down areas tidy and well organised

  • What needs to be done?

  • Are there Safety Data Sheets available.

Fencing and Signs

  • Are site fences and gates secure and closed

  • Please shut gates and fix fence

  • Is there safety signage on all entrances into the construction site?

  • Which entrances need signs

  • Are there fence clips, feet or panels loose?

  • Please pick up and place in correct area

Personal Safety Equipment

  • Are we a box ahead of glasses, ear muffs, gloves and masks?

  • What PPE do we need?

  • Are people wearing eye protection when necessary? (e.g while using nail guns, skill saws, drop saws etc.)

  • Who is not wearing them and what are they doing?

  • Are people wearing ear protection when necessary? (e.g while using nail guns, skill saws, drop saws, using hammers etc.)

  • Who is not wearing them and what are they doing?

  • Are people wearing masks when necessary? (e.g while cutting fiber cement products and bricks.)

  • Who is not wearing them and what are they doing?

  • Are people wearing masks when necessary? (e.g while cutting fiber cement products and bricks.)

  • Who is not wearing them and what are they doing?

  • Are people wearing Hard hats when necessary? (For FV Papamoa anytime outside) (For FV Cmabridge and Matamata when working under other people, next to heavy machinery and hiabs)

  • Are people wearing safety footware? (excludes people working on roofs and in stilts)

  • Who is not wearing them and what are they doing?

Tools

  • In this section check a couple of sites using tools. Include contractors that are using tools.

  • Do tools have valid test and tags. (check dates on tags)

  • Take note of which tool, person and company it is.

  • Are tools being used have working guards and safety features (e.g grinders guard, vacuum systems, water to brick saw)

  • Take note of which tool, person and company it is.

  • Are the correct multiboxes being used? (Plug bosses and home multiboxes are not allowed)

  • Take note of which person and company it belongs too.

Vehicles and Heavy Equipment

  • Are diggers and heavy machinery isolated from other work sites?

Scaffolding

  • Are the scaffold tags in place and current? ( Scaffold needs to be checked weekly and after storm events and earthquakes)

  • Which scaffolds have not been done?

  • Are toe boards attached to all parts of scaffold?

  • Which sites need to be addressed?

  • Are hand rails at least a meter above platforms?

  • Which sites need to be addressed?

  • Are Guardrails (edge protection) at least a meter above where roof line intersects platform? (Refer to image below)

  • Which sites need to be addressed?

  • Are the Ladders set up correctly ( Check that the ladders extend a metre past the platforms and are at a angle of 4:1)

Ladders

  • In this section check ladders that are being used and the ladders that are in containers.

  • Are people using ladders using them correctly (e.g not using the top or the step below the top, set up the ladders correctly)

  • Take note of which person and company it is.

  • Are the ladders in good condition? (check that the feet have tread, the rungs are not broken, the stays work)

  • Take note of which ladder it is.

  • Please write down anything else that was not in this checklist that you believe should be known or need to be looked into. (e.g. any other unsafe practices or things that we could improve or add to the checklist).
