Section 1: Emergency Planning

  • Does the location have a local incident response plan (LIRP)?

  • Is the local incident response plan available to all staff or authorities to read? Note any comments as required.

Section 2: Fire detection

  • Can the existing means of detection ensure that if a fire is discovered quickly enough for the alarm to be raised in time for all occupants to escape the location to a place of safety?

  • Can the means of warning be clearly heard and understood by everyone throughout the whole building when initiated form a single point?

Section 5: Signs and notices

  • Where necessary, are escape routes and exits, the location of fire fighting equipment and emergency telephones indicated by appropriate signage?

  • Have all fire action notices for colleagues, visitors and contractors been provided and are they on display?

  • Are all signs and notices maintained so that they remain legible?

Section 6: Installation, testing and maintenance

  • Has all fire detection, fire fighting equipment and emergency lighting undergone routine maintenance?

  • Is the fire log book up to date with all records of testing and maintenance that has been undertaken?

Section 7: Fire risk assessment

  • Has a fire risk assessment been undertaken at the location?

  • Have remedial actions been taken to rectify any recommendations raised?

  • Have the findings from the risk assessment been briefed to all colleagues who work at the location and the local health and safety representative?

  • Have colleagues been provided with information on any flammable or hazardous or dangerous substances that may be in use or that they may come into contact with whilst at the location?

  • Are arrangements in place to inform visitors and contractors of the fire safety arrangements in place at the location?

  • If the location has multi-occupancy have fire safety arrangements been coordinated with other users of the locations?

  • Has recorded details of any information that has been passed to other users of the locations been kept?

Section 9: Fire safety training arrangements

  • Have all colleagues received the appropriate level of training that they require?

  • Have the results of training been entered on individual employee personal portfolios?

  • Has joint training and evacuation been undertaken in multi-occupancy premises?

Section 10: Housekeeping

  • Is waste removed regularly?

  • Is electrical equipment in good Order? (Check PAT testing, loading on sockets, frayed or damaged cables)

  • Are cooking areas kept free from build up of oils and fat?

  • Have all tenants employees been briefed and or trained on the local incident response plan and local fire safety?

  • Are the tenants premises/accommodation kept clean and tidy with waste regularly removed?

  • Do tenants have in place fire detection (smoke alarms) and tested/maintained fire fighting equipment (fire blankets and extinguishers)?
