Health and Safety Inspection

Is there general safe site access and egress for workers and customer?
Is the working areas/site in a safe and tidy manner with materials stored safely?
Is there adequate protection of customers’ property?
Do the trades have their H&S file with them and in good repair?
Is the Pre-Construction Information is available on site?
Is the Construction Phase H&S Plan available on site?
Risk Assessments /Method Statements have been completed and made available to all workers?
All persons on site have completed a site induction program?
Is there a first aider at the property?
Is there a first aid kit available and all up-to date?
All persons on site are aware of the work being carried out and all risks identified?
Is relevant PPE being worn by all workers?
Do vans appear clean and serviceable?

Are the right tools or machinery being used for the job?
Are all dangerous parts guarded, eg gears, chain drives, projecting engine shafts?
Are tools and machinery maintained in good repair and are all safety devices operating correctly?
Are guards secured and in good repair?
Are low voltage/battery operated portable tools used where feasible?
Do all cables/connections appear to be in good order?
Are there any trip hazards present and are they being managed?
Are all tools and equipment PAT tested and in date?
Have all underground and hidden services been located and marked / precaution taken?

Are they in good condition?
Is the work of short duration and low risk?
Are secured to prevent slippage?
Ladders extend the correct distance above the working platform?
Are trestles and/or stepladders being used?
Are they fit for purpose (Class 1) and not domestic?
Do you have to use the top three rungs of a stepladder? If so the stepladder is too short.

Will the weather conditions threaten the health and safety of those carrying out the work?
Scaffold appears to be suitable for the work being carried out?
All alterations are carried out and certified by a competent person?
Handover certificates are filed and available for inspection?
Is safe access available to the scaffold?
Uprights are provided with base plates and sole plates?
All ledgers braces and struts are in position?
The scaffold is secured to minimise the likelihood of collapse?
Guard rails and toe boards have been installed in accordance with best practice?
Are additional brick guards provided to prevent materials falling from scaffolds?
Have the wheels of tower scaffolds been locked when in use and are the platforms empty when they are moved?
Does a competent person inspect the scaffold or proprietary tower scaffold regularly, eg at least once a week; and always after it has been altered, damaged and following bad weather?

Has precautions been taken to stop people falling through fragile materials when working on the roof, eg by providing barriers, covers or working platforms?
Is there adequate edge protection?
Harnesses are available and used?
Crawling boards are available for use on fragile surfaces?
No work is allowed under areas with persons working at height?
Debris protection is in place?
Safety nets/air bags are in place?
Is relevant access platform/stair scaffold being used in stairwells?

Risk Assessments /Method Statements have been completed and made available to all parties?
Properly designed and maintained support systems are in place?
The sides of excavations are battered back to the correct angle of repose?
Safe secure access to the excavation is in place?
Sufficient barriers are in place to stop persons accidentally falling into the excavation?
The stability of adjacent structures has been considered in relation to excavation work?
Plant, materials and spoil are stored away from the excavation to minimise the possibility of collapse?
The excavation is inspected and the results recorded by a competent person on a regular basis?

Are all workers aware of asbestos risks and been trained on its identification?
Have all potentially hazardous substances been identified?
Do workers know what to do if they come into contact with a potentially hazardous substance?

Are there sufficient fire points with – extinguishers, alarms, etc.?
Is the fire assembly point clearly identified – fire plan / signage?
Are all escape routes clear and suitably marked?
Has a Construction Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety Plan been produced and onsite?
Is the signing-in book completed and current?
Are Tool Box Talks being regularly undertaken and recorded?
Is the emergency services sheet completed and current?
Is the Health & Safety Law Poster displayed?
Is the F10 notification displayed?
Is all statutory signage displayed?

Dust & Air Pollution - Are all operations likely to cause excessive dust controlled?
Hazardous Waste - Are hazardous wastes properly stored & disposed of by authorised?
Noise & Vibration – Are all noise & vibration reduction measures in place & operational?
Waste Management – Are all wastes properly stored in suitable skips and checked for leaking?
