Hazardous Communications Audit

  • Do you have any MSDS's?<br>(individual must be able to physically point out the MSDS's for their area)

  • Do you have any hazardous materials in your work area? (They should be able to locate their inventory of hazardous materials)

  • Is there a hazardous inventory? if yes, a copy of your inventory needs to be included with this audit report.

  • Has the inventory been reviewed within the last calendar year?

  • Is there a written hazardous communication program for their work area?

  • Is each container labeled properly? (At minimum product identity, hazard warning, PPE, target organs, manufacturer name, address and emergency phone number)

  • Do they know where to obtain an MSDS if needed? (MSDS Online, Safety Compliance Office)

  • Are proper personal protective devices available and used when handling corrosive, flammable and carcinogenic substances?

  • Are chemicals stored properly? (Not under sinks)

  • Are volumes of chemicals consistent with usage? It is dangerous to store large volumes of hazardous chemicals. Chemicals should be discarded if not used within 6 months.

  • Have any new chemicals or processes been introduced in the past year?

  • Have employees been trained on the appropriate use of PPE?

  • Have employees been trained on how to handle a spill and is a spill kit available?
