Have you provided containers to collect and separate all of the following:

  • Waste

  • Trash

  • Oily and used rags

  • Other refuse

  • Do the containers for garbage or other oily, flammable, or hazardous wastes (caustics, acids, harmful dusts, etc.) have covers?

  • Are all solvent wastes, oily rags and flammable liquids kept in fire-resistant, covered containers until removed from the job site?

  • Is garbage and waste disposed of at regular and frequent intervals?

  • Are combustible scrap and debris safely removed at regular intervals?

  • Are all work areas, passageways and stairs kept clear of all debris, including form and scrap lumber with protruding nails?

  • Do you comply with all local fire regulations when burning waste materials or debris?

  • Is an enclosed chute used to drop waste materials more than 20' to any point lying outside the steroid walls of a structure?

When debris is dropped through holes in the floor without the use of a chute:

  • Is the area onto which the debris is dropped completely enclosed with barricades that are at least 42 inches high and that are set back not less than 6' from the projected edge of the opening above?

  • Are signs warning of the hazard of falling materials posted at each level?

  • Are employees prohibited from removing debris from the lower level until debris handling ceases above?

  • Is every enclosed workplace constructed equipped and maintained, so far as reasonably practical, to prevent the entrance or harbor age of rodents, insects and other vermin?

  • If the presence of vermin is detected, is an effective extermination program put in place?

  • If housekeeping/cleanup duties are performed where live electrical parts present a hazard, are adequate safeguards such as insulating equipment or barriers provided?

  • Are hazardous wastes such as dust or debris contaminated with asbestos or lead disposed of properly in sealed, leak-tight and labeled containers or bags?

  • Are HEPA-filtered vacuums used for hazardous dusts and debris containing asbestos, lead, etc.?

  • Do employees avoid dry sweeping dusts containing asbestos, lead, etc.?

  • Have employees and anyone else who may launder work clothing that has been contaminated with asbestos, lead or other hazardous materials been informed of the hazards of such materials and the proper methods for handling such hazardous materials?
