Diesel Generator Checklists

  • Operate Generator for five minutes and check the voltage levels.

  • Generator is clean and in a good condition

  • Fuel tank at least 50% full

  • Diesel tank should be free from leakage

  • No Leaks (look underneath generator)

  • Radiator, no leaks

  • Radiator coolant level

  • Battery connections

  • Battery water level

  • Door of DG should be in good condition, so that rotatory part of machine could cover.

  • Display panel should be in good condition.

  • Power supply panel provided with ELCB/RCCB/MCB.

  • Emergency stop button should be mushroom headed with red color

  • Exhaust system is functioning normally

  • Auto-start is working (Check on/off button, and Emergency stop push button)

  • Gen. room is well ventilated and non-flammable

  • Generator unit have a wire to an “Earth” ground (copper rod)

  • Check exhaust manifold & stack emission, and consider the availability of heat shield and silencer

  • Check heat, volt, amperage, gauges, …etc.

  • Guards around fan, fan belts and other moving parts

  • Condition of cable insulation, and cable size is proper for operation

  • Circuit breakers are in a good condition and fit for operation

  • DG should be keep on aggregate/gravel stone

  • Spill absorbent kit or drip tray available

  • Spark arrestor should be installed as per requirement.

  • Insulated rubber mat available

  • DG operated by a competent person

  • Availability of 6 Kg CO2 fire extinguisher, BCP fire extinguisher and sand bucket near the generator

  • Are the warning signs and emergency contact numbers Available?
