Overall Impressions

  • Workplace appearance portrays a safe operational working environment.

Lighting

  • All lighting is operational, clean, and gives illumination across all areas.

Emergency access and equipment

  • Fire extinguishers, emergency exits and eye wash stations are unobstructed and stored in a prominent, easy to locate manner.

Personal Safety

  • Are all employees are wearing the proper PPE for the job they are doing. All employees are following the HALO rule when interacting with forklift operators?

Machine Guarding

  • All equipment being used has proper guarding to eliminate an employee from getting injured. All machines are safe to operate and in good working condition.

Area floor cleaning and condition

  • All floors are clean and free of debris, oil and dirt. Floor is free from broken concrete and floor trench covers are flush with the floor.

Removing unnecessary items

  • All items not necessary for performing the work are removed from the workplace; only tools and needed equipment are in the work spaces.

Items on floor

  • Un-needed materials are not left to sit on the floor and create clutter in the work area. Large items such as pallets, lumber, scrap metal and buckets with oil, water, paints or other material are in proper locations or discarded.

Power tools and hand tools

  • All tools in the area are in good working condition and free from damage. Power tools are clean and not missing any guards. Hand tools are free of damage and used properly.

Ergonomics

  • Are all work stations set up to keep the employees body in a neutral position while doing their work? Can you witness employees with poor ergonomics?
