Use the checklist to observe an individual or team's initial management of the acutely ill patient. Afterwards, write a comment and share your observations with those you observed. Avoid just reading through each item on the checklist andr try to synthesise your observations.

Clinical Management

Promptly assesses the acutely ill patient performing a systematic ABCDE (< 3 min) and gathers patient history

Establishes monitoring, if available

Identifies and responds to acutely abnormal physiology interpreting observations correctly

Observes respiratory pattern and rate and measures oxygen saturation

Assesses pulse rate, rhythm and volume

Measures blood pressure

Uses medical equipment safely and appropriately -e.g. masks, oxygen, monitors.

Considers differential diagnosis and shares this with colleagues

Reassesses effect of treatment with team members

Calls for senior help appropriately and communicates gravity of situation
