  • Driver Name

Engine compartment

  • 1. The area under the engine is free of leaks ( oil, water, other fluids)

  • 2. Oil cap present and secure?

  • Check the oil, coolant, brake and washer levels. Are they all within manufacturers parameters?

  • Is the serpentine belt snug and free from cracks or fraying?

  • Are all the hoses free from cracks, fraying or wear?

Truck Cab

  • Is the truck cab clean and free of trash?

  • Are all paperwork storage boxes secured using seat belts or other restraints?

  • Is the fire extinguisher fully charged and secured?

  • Has the fire extinguisher been inspected, with marked tags, within the last month?

  • Are the emergency triangles present and stored correctly? (3)

  • Horn works properly?

  • Turning on the ignition, are all the gauges functioning properly?

  • Steering wheel is free from excessive play when turned side to side?

  • Turn signals, 4-way emergency flashers, brake, and high beam indicator lights are all working?

  • Is a copy of the vehicle registration and the company insurance in the glove box?

  • Is a copy of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation (green book) in the cab?

  • Is a copy of the Federal Motor Carrier Hazardous Materials Guide (orange book) in the cab?

  • Is the GVWR for the vehicle and the maximum towing capacity labeled on the dash?

  • Are the shipping papers readily available to the driver and include the MSDS sheet?

  • If the load is placardable, does the driver have the proper endorsement on his license?

Brake Check

  • Apply the parking brake. Does it hold when putting the vehicle in drive and pulling against it?

  • Move the vehicle forward and apply the brake. Does it grab firmly with no slipping?

  • Is there any air leaks in the system?

Outside Inspection

  • Vehicle picture.

  • On the battery, are the posts tight and free of corrosion?

  • All Total Safety required markings are clear and visible?

  • All windows are clean and free of cracks that might impair the drivers ability to see?

  • All the mirrors are clean and free of cracks that might impair the drivers ability to see?

  • Windshield wipers are clean with no dry rot or cracks that would impair their functionality?

  • Wiper arms are in good condition?

  • The body of the truck shows no damage? (Any damage must be reported IMMEDIATELY)

  • Using a tire gauge, check the tires for proper inflation. Are they within specifications?

  • Are the tires free of excessive wear and do they have the correct tread depth?

  • Are all the lugs on the tires tight?

  • Are all the rims in good condition with no bends or cracks?

  • Is the spare tire secured underneath the vehicle and in good condition?

  • All lights ( turn, 4- way, brake, running, low beams, high beams, and license plate) functioning properly?

  • Are all placard holders in good condition and clearly visible?

  • Tow hitch is firmly secured to frame?

  • Electrical wires are in good condition with no cuts or frays?

  • Electrical coupling for the trailer shows no corrosion and protective cover is fully in place?

  • Is the bed free of debris and are all containers properly stored?

  • Does vehicle have a bed net? Is it being used?

  • Does the vehicle have a set of chock blocks?

  • If a ball hitch, is the proper size ball set for the trailer? ( if trailer is being utilized)

  • Is the ball made outside the US? If so, is it rated for the trailer that is to be pulled?

  • If a 5th wheel, do the locking jaws close fully?

  • If a 5th wheel, is the platform free of cracks and other damage?

  • If a 5th wheel, is the platform sufficiently greased to allow smooth sliding of the skid plate?

  • If a 5th wheel, do the locking pins work properly?

  • Is all equipment secured properly with keeper pins or proper straps?
