Inspection

General

  • Check there is a non picking supervisor for each team

  • Expectation is that ALL bags emptied into bins are QC'd by the bin supervisor. Too many bins, bins spread out, too many pickers = inadequate supervision = FAIL

  • Rain picking

  • Observe picking technique. All pickers are seen bringing fruit down INTO the picking bag and releasing it - no dropping from above bag rim. Also monitor "hand speed", fruit being dropped and or leaves being ripped. All indicators of poor and unnecessary technique.

  • Picking bags banging or resting full bags on bins

  • Good practice to avoid fatigue is to hold bag strings with one hand, while bracing on edge of bin with free hand. Lower bag into bin before releasing

  • Emptying bag to bin transfer (rough handling of fruit)

  • Best practice is to bend knees and lower bag so fruit flows into bin, not dropping

  • Picking fruit off of the ground

  • Zero tolerance. Any fruit from the ground put into a bin or bag = INSTANT FAIL

  • Driving too fast - tractors / bin transport

  • Speed to mitigate fruit bouncing on bin trailers

  • Dropped fruit

  • Pass: 2 or less Class 1 fruit per bay seen on the ground where harvest has been completed. Fail = Take pic

  • Fruit left unpicked

  • Pass: 3 or less class 1 fruit per bay are seen left in canopy after harvest. Fail = Take pic

  • Overfilled bins at load pad

  • Below lip of bin to avoid crushing. Fail = take pic
