Lifting RAMS

Lifting Gear Storage

  • Is there a storage container or job box provided to storage lifting equipment

  • Are slings being stored correctly, hung up, under shelter, away from direct sunlight

  • Are Chains stored correctly (Hung up)

  • Do the webbing slings have Coloured tags showing expiry date

  • Is Lifting identification tags present on slings and not torn away

  • Is metal chain identifier tags available with all chains

  • are there crane liftable waste skips on site. Are there certs for these on site

Lifting Site Inspection

  • Has license/work permit or approval obtained for lifts, eg,network rail,highways,avaition etc

  • Are all lifting operations suitably supervised

  • Are all lifting operations thoroughly planned before hand

  • Has the effect of wind on load been considered

  • Is there a system in place for ensuring the safe lifting and handling of loads with unknown weights

  • Are lifting accessories used compatible with the intended load

  • Are excavations activities near lifting operations been considered

  • Is the centre of gravity of the load found before proceeding with lifting operations

  • Has the proximity to overhead structure(s) been considered

  • Have signals and/or radio communication been established between those involved in the operation

  • Is equipment used for lifting people clearly marked to distinguish that it is for this purpose with the safe working load

  • Are additional measures taken to secure loads that might break up, e.g. a pallet of paving bricks secured in plastic sheeting

  • Are tag line been used where applicable

  • Are operations that require suspending loads above people prevented or reorganised so they don’t put people at risk

  • Are suspended loads prevented from swinging and swaying excessively during operations

  • Is there adequate lifting resources on site to accommodate all lifts and future lifts

  • Are working and collapse zones of the crane or plant equipment within the site boundaries

  • Is there a suitable and reliable means of rescue in the instance of emergency or failure

Lifting Delivery's/Removals

  • Is the slinger working on a flatbed with suitable edge protection

  • Is the slinger accessing the flatbed using a suitable access system

  • Is the Alsipercha system set up in place to accommodate delivery's without a handrail system in place

  • Is the slinger trained to wear a harness

Unsafe Lifting practices

  • Have there been any unsafe lifting practices noticed on site, chandelier lifts, single use slings, unsafe cradle lifts, splicing the slings etc

Supervisor Duties

  • Is the supervisor carrying out Daily briefings (depending on number of men)

  • Are toolbox talks relevant to lifting operations being given to the lifting team

  • Are the lifting team wearing the correct PPE relevant to site requirements

  • Are lifts being carried out as per the Agreed Schedule of lifts

  • Are work areas being segregated/area controlled during lifting operations

  • Are damaged lifting accessories being destroyed-evidence from weekly checks

  • Are all the crane daily and weekly check sheets completed and up to date.
