  • Is there a suitable number of Appointed Persons available and authorised for lifting activities on site?

  • Are lift plans/ permits suitable, available and approved by Appointed Persons for lifting activities on site?

  • Are Crane Supervisors and Slinger/ Signallers trained, experienced and appointed?

  • Do all parties have the relevant CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) card and where applicable wear something that clearly identifies them for that role?

  • Have temporary works and ground conditions been considered and risk assessed?

  • Is the lift area identified, segregated with exclusion zones and controls in place for clash avoidance and overhead proximity hazards? Are these clearly marked, briefed and understood?

  • Are communications agreed and understood between operations for control of the lift?

  • Are lifting accessories in good order and being used correctly?

  • Is access and egress to lifting equipment available and suitable? Have suitable set down areas been identified?

  • Is a LOLER inspection regime in place with up to date records and documents to support this? (Register, thorough examination certs)

  • Have all loads been secured properly? When lifting loose loads, bundles of tubes, rebar or timber, is the double wrap choke hitch used?

  • Are excavators used as cranes? If so, do they comply with all above?

  • Are Hired Lorry Loaders/ Telehandlers covered by Lifting Permits?

  • Are safe material unloading/ loading arrangements in place which reduce the need to climb onto flatbed lorries or their loads?
