Inspecting Fire Call Points

Check the following:
- Ensure unit is not blocked, check glass cover is in place and not damaged and examine overall condition.

Inspecting Fire Extinguishers

Check the following:
- Confirm the extinguisher is visible, unobstructed, and in its designated location. Verify the locking pin is intact and the tamper seal is unbroken.
- Examine the extinguisher for obvious physical damage, corrosion, leakage, or clogged nozzle
- Make sure the operating instructions on the nameplate are legible and facing outward.
- Confirm pressure gauge/indicator is in the operable range and lift extinguisher to ensure it is still full.
- Check the last professional service date on the tag. (A licensed fire extinguisher maintenance contractor must have inspected the extinguisher within the past 12 months.)
- If extinguisher is Dry Powder type, remove extinguisher, turn upside down and tap bottom to agitate

Inspecting Fire Hydrants

Carry out the following checks:

- The Space/Locker/Cupboard is clear, clean and in good condition.
- Hydrant is accessible, brackets are free of corrosion and correctly mounted and valve operable (ensure valve is closed after inspection)
- Hydrant Valve is fully operable and valve to be left closed after inspection.
- Hoses are dry, correctly rolled and stowed.
- Nozzle free of corrosion and all moving parts (stream/spray pattern) operate correctly.
- Make Sure Accommodation space Hydrants and hoses are Attached.
- Hose, nozzle and hydrant connection seals are thoroughly lubricated

Life Rings

Check the following:
- Item is correctly stowed in listed location and easily accessible.
- Item is in good condition, has no signs of damage and Reflective SOLAS tape is Intact - Units with lights: lights must be tested, ensuring the battery pack is dry and free from rust.
- Units with line: line is present, easily deployable and attached to the life ring.
- DO NOT DETACH THE BRIDGE DECK SMOKE/LIGHT UNITS FROM THEIR BRACKETS!

Immersion Suits

Check the following:
- Item is correctly stowed in listed location and easily accessible.
- Item is in good condition, dry, free from mould/mildew and has no signs of damage
- That the serial number on the suit matches the serial number on the bag.
- Zippers to be lubricated quarterly (January, April, July, October)
