General Safety.

  • Are walkways and doors clear of obstructions and hazards?

  • Are floors and walkways in good condition?

  • Is lighting steady with no blown bulbs?

  • Are associates aware of emergency procedures and know who their first aiders are?

  • Do associates know what the hotel emergency number is?

  • Do associates know who their Safety Committee representative is?

  • Do associates know where to access the Safety committee meeting minutes?

  • Are "wet floor" signs easily available and utilized? Are they clean and free of dings/marks/etc.?

  • Are doors closing and locking appropriately?

  • Are "3E Protect" available where chemicals are being used?

  • Are first aid kits and first aid room appropriately stocked?

  • Is PPE being used in good condition or good working order?

  • Are stored items (boxes, stock, crates etc) at appropriate height, below sprinklers and at no risk of falling?

  • Are all electrical items tested and tagged and within date, cord are not freyed and not creating trip hazards?

  • Are JSA's known and available?

  • Are facilities clean and tidy and well maintained? (Canteen, toilets, locker room, smoking area)

  • Are bins, including glass disposal, regularly emptied? (I.e no overflowing rubbish or insects / pests present?)

  • Is there any visible damage to fixtures and fittings?

Behavioural observations

  • Are associates wearing appropriate shoes (non slip safety shoes)?

  • Was safety discussed in team meetings and daily stand ups (ask someone)?

  • Are associates using correct lifting and carrying techniques?

  • Are stretch breaks encouraged and performed?

Kitchen Safety

  • Are associates using correct knife handling skills?

  • Are associates trained in the use of hot / sharp equipment?

  • Are knives and sharp equipment stored correctly?

  • Is PPE worn and used where applicable? (Gloves for handling hot items, sharps, and / or chemicals, shoes with non-slip soles to prevent falls, )

Office Safety

  • Is the top third of the monitor at eye height?

  • Are elbows and knees at 90 degrees when seated?

  • Does associates know how to adjust their chair height / tilt / seat pitch?

  • Are associates using correct manual handling techniques?

Miscellaneous

Facilities

  • Are facilities clean, tidy and well maintained? (Canteen, Toilets, Locker Room, Smoking Areas)

  • Are bins emptied regularly? (i.e. no overflowing rubbish around bin)

  • Is the car park and common areas free from hazards?

  • Is there any visible damage to fixtures and fittings?
