Video Detectors

  • Verify detection zones are in proper location relative to the lanes being detected. Assess impact of changes on sun's seasonal position on detection accuracy

  • Verify that video detection system is using the latest software version and upgrade

  • Inspect joints for us and crack at arm/up right location and at base play

  • Inspect horizontal and vertical angles of arms

  • Hand hole - check integrity of splices in Signal Cable, check ground rod, clamp and ground wire connections

  • Adequately secure hand hole covers

  • Check signal cable for where at entrance of poles, brackets, signal heads, and where it's lased to span wire

  • Check bonding of span wire and tether wire to strain pole

  • Check for obstructions in drain at pole base

Signal Heads

All boxes below are to be done annually

  • Clean lenses and reflectors

  • Check mounting hardware

  • Check alignment (aim toward center of approach at a point approximately 150 feet in advance of the stop bar)

  • Check the clearance between the roadway and the bottom of signals and/or signs located over the roadway

  • Check for signals obscured by foilage

  • Check security of louvers, visors, and backplates

  • Clean signs

  • Check for wear on span wire and signal mounting hardware

Systems Equipment

All boxes are to be done annually

  • Ensure controller operates in mode selected by master, if applicable

  • Check any special equipment for proper operation

  • Disconnect controller from master and check for free or backup operation
