  • Is eye protection worn when working with hazardous chemicals?

Section 3 – Compressed gas cylinders

  • Do lab workers wear eye protection when changing regulators or manipulating tubing or equipment potentially under pressure?

Section 4 – Highly reactive materials, high pressure reactions, or vacuum systems

  • Does this lab work with highly reactive materials, high-pressure reactions, or vacuum systems?

  • Are pyrophorics handled in this lab?

  • Are flame resistant lab coats worn, fully buttoned, and with sleeves fully extended?

  • What corrective actions will be, or have been, taken?

  • Are cryogenics handled in this lab?

  • Are impervious thermal gloves used when handling cryogenics?

  • Are vacuum systems used in this lab? (even house vac)

  • Are acutely toxic chemicals handled in this lab? (cyanides, ammonia, HF, arsinse, arsenic compounds) (fatal if swallowed, inhaled, or skin contact)

  • Are chemicals with high chronic toxicity, carcinogens, or reproductive toxins handled in this lab? (acrylamide, benzene, beryllium, cadmium, chloroform, cobalts, cyclosporin, formaldehyde, lead, mercury, nickle compounds, sulfuric acid)

  • Do lab workers wear lab coats?

  • Are lab coats, gowns, smocks, or uniforms worn?
