External

  • Store entrance surface is in good condition with no trip hazards (loose tiles/crumbling concrete etc). Also check the area directly outside of the store entrance even though it may be the responsibility of the mall/local authority

  • Windows and doors are in good condition (windows are not loose/cracked)

  • All external signage is secure (visual inspection)

  • Fire exits are clear from obstruction, doors are in working order and open/close with ease

Shop Floor

  • Door mats are in good condition (no rips, holes or curls that could cause a trip)

  • Staff are trained on steamer safety and when steamer is not in use, it is turned off & stored securely

  • All sewing machines used in fixtures on shop floor and in windows are securely fitted (visual inspection), have no sharp objects still attached or moving parts that could cause injury

  • Display cabinets and tables are stable. Where appropriate, feet are properly adjusted and none are missing

  • All perimeter systems are still securely fitted to the floor and wall / ceiling (visual inspection/shake)

  • "All shelves and rails on perimeter systems should be checked that they have been fitted correctly and are secure as per HSE video. <br>40mm & 60mm systems should have a nut above and below each shelf & rail"

  • Free standing rails - check the rails have no adjustable feet missing and they are adjusted correctly so the rail does not wobble.

  • Ensure all glass is sitting correctly within the frames of the shelves, ensure there is leather on the tables where there is floating glass (retail i-beam and coffee tables)

  • All seating is in good condition with no sharp edges

  • Mannequins - check the spigot is fitted correctly & the grub bolt is tightened, check the spigot receiver is secure to the base, check the mannequin is correctly fitted to the spigot, check the base / mannequin is sitting on a flat surface and does not wobble.

  • Ensure that all wall mirrors are fixed securely and free standing mirrors are not damaged or have any sharp edges.

  • Ensure a minimum distance of 900mm (UK/EU/ASIA) 36" (NA) around all freestanding fixtures, in line with Government/City fire safety advice and ADA/DDA regulations - For NA please refer to the 'ADA Training document supplied.

  • Floor is not faulty (trip hazard, holes in the wood, loose tiles etc)

  • Fire extinguishers are secured on appropriate fixtures with correct signage, are in date and not hidden behind stock/fixtures, not to be used as door props

  • Fire doors are clearly signed and in good working order and will open/close with ease

Till Area

  • Till area is in good working condition, including cupboards & doors and plug sockets are not overloaded

Fitting Rooms

  • Fitting room mirrors are fixed securely to the wall and are not damaged or have any sharp edges (including no loose wires for the lights)

  • Fitting room doors and curtains are in good working order and secure

  • Fitting room hanging bars and hooks are secure and not loose

  • Disabled fitting rooms are clear and able to use

Stairs

  • Staircases and handrails are free from clutter and are in good order with no trip hazards caused by loose nose edgings

Stock Rooms

  • No trip hazards on the floor, e.g. it is not loose or uneven

  • All shelving is secure and fixed to the walls

  • Boxes are correctly stacked (heavy boxes at the bottom, not stacked above 6ft)

  • Fire doors are clearly signed and in good working order and will open/close with ease

  • Fire exits and paths are clear from obstruction. No stock to be kept in yellow marked areas.

  • Fire extinguishers are secured on appropriate fixtures with correct signage, are in date and not hidden behind stock/fixtures, not to be used as door props

Staff Rooms

  • Seats and furniture are in good condition

  • Fire exits and paths are clear

  • Fire doors are clearly signed and in good working order and will open/close with ease

Office

  • Seats and furniture are in good condition

  • No trip hazards (e.g. staff personal items, stock, uneven flooring etc)

  • All BOH ceiling tiles are in good condition

  • There is sufficient lighting throughout store, including fitting rooms and stockrooms

  • Any faulty equipment identified has been removed from use, labelled as faulty and returned ASAP

  • All doors to BOH areas are secure, including digilocks
