Pre Inspection Checklist

  • Have you notified the chief or another engineering member that you will be on the roof(s)?

  • Conduct this inspection whenever possible in the morning or late afternoon.

  • Conduct this inspection after any significant wind or rain event.

  • PPE needed: phone, hat, water, sunscreen, sunglasses, gloves, garbage bag.

  • Tools and materials needed: Squeegy and broom especially after severe wind and rain events.

  • Enter name and date into sign in sheet at the base of the access ladder.

Roof Inspection Checklist Items

  • Is the roof access room clear of debris?

  • Is the access ladder secure?

  • Are ladder bolts tight and rungs in good shape?

  • Does the hatch cover latch properly and open/close easily?

  • Check condition of the curb and hinges. Note any cracks or deformities.

  • Remove any debris on the roof such as old repairing material, pine needles, leaves, ropes, etc.

  • Examine roof membrane for punctures, cracks, blisters, ponding.

  • Examine wood HVAC equipment barrier for rotting and deformities.

  • Is the skylight glass in good condition?

  • Is the waterproofing and gaskets around skylights free of cracks, blisters or other deformities?

  • Are the boot areas around vents and drains in good condition?

Discrepancy Drawings

  • If any discrepancies were found, download and print out the "Roof Discrepancy Drawing Form" in the Angus work order.

  • Follow the directions and identification codes on the form for drawing out failed responses.

  • Write up needed actions in the Angus work order system.
