Fuels Oils & Chemicals

  • Are any fuels, oils and other chemicals kept in the station or in a separate storage area?

  • Please ensure that containers are correctly tagged by requisitioning new tags from the Area Office and that chemicals are only stored in their original containers.

  • If the brigade does not have a WH & S folder, one will be supplied by Area Office. This folder will contain Safety data Sheets for most common chemicals. Please requisition a WH & S folder as soon as possible.

  • Is there a spill kit at the Fire Station?

  • A simple Spill Kit can be made using a 20lt bucket with lid 60% full of Soakerall or coarse wood shavings! With a dustpan and brush on top along with 2 heavy duty bin bags.

Record Keeping

  • Is there a a WH & S folder located at the station?

  • If the brigade does not have a WH & S folder, one will be supplied by Area Office. Please requisition as soon as you can.

  • Does the brigade have a WH & S Safety board to display updates on QFES Doctrine

  • Please requisition a Safety board from Area Office. Use this to display updates on Standing Orders, Training updates, Operational Doctrine and Operational Guides.

  • Does the brigade have important contact information prominently displayed and a White Board for writing important information on.

  • Please obtain a Whiteboard and markers and fix somewhere in a prominent position and display important contact information on this Whiteboard

  • All of the following questions relate to records that should be kept at the Fire Station and be kept in the WH & S folder. Once the brigade obtains a WH & S folder records that are kept in the station now should be placed in this new folder.

  • Are there First Aid Kits located at the station that are not on the appliances?

  • A RFS First Aid Kit must be kept at the Fire Station. Please requisition a First Aid Kit from Area Office.

  • A minimum of 1 4.5kg Dry Powder Extinguisher needs to be located in a highly visible location at the Fire Station. If there is not one installed, one needs to be installed as soon as possible and be tested every 6 months by a certified technician.
