Nursing Process as it relates to IHPs

~ Timely development of individualized IHPs for students with health needs
~ Assessment portion of IHP is comprehensive
~ Student needs and risks are identified
~ Goals reflect student needs/risks and incorporate client values/preferences and knowledge
~ Interventions identify how the goal will be met
(medical/nursing treatments; health education/promotion activities; classroom accommodations; emergency & evacuation plans)
~ Evaluates (within the IHP) effetiveness of interventions and progress of goals; modifies interventions as needed

Maintenance & Competency of Practice

~ Staff development activities, stays current with nursing research
~ Utilizes current research/best practice knowledge in practice
~ Documents student health information (immunizations, screening data/follow-up, health concerns & comments) in a timely manner
~ Implements measures to monitor/assure effectiveness of practice and school health program
~ Communicates professionally with students/staff/parents/community
~ Completed goals document (including strengths & weaknesses); activity working to achieve goals

Contribution to the Profession

~ Goals reflect vision for campus and professional growth
~ Promotes teamwork
~ Member of professional organization or utilizes resources from professional organization
~ Trains, supervises, evaluates unlicensed campus staff designated to perform health related activities
~ Participates in campus/department meetings; participates in campus committees and/or activities

Integrity in Practice

~ Adheres to employee handbook (work hours, dress code, technology usage, reporting absences)
~ Attempts to find subs; keeps team leader, campus and partner updated with monthly calendar and in changes in schedule
~ Maintains RN licensure
~ Protects confidentiality of health information
~ Practice guided by Code of Ethics; delivers care in a manner that demonstrates knowledge, critical thinking, professionalism, and respect for others' beliefs and cultures; protects client autonomy, dignity, and rights

Advocacy & Stewardship

~ Assesses client need, validates need with client; informs client of resources available to meet need, assists client in securing resource
~ Communicates role of school nurse
~ Communicates environmental health risks/reduction strategies to students/staff/community
~ Implements strategies to promote emotionally/physically healthy and prepared communities
~ Assumes responsibility for in-service programs regarding health related issues on the campus
~ Identifies health needs/trends of school and community; implements district procedures and best practice standards to address issues
~ Utilizes technology to support nursing and health program activities
