Competence Assessment

Assessor and Competent person Competency

  • The Assessor and competent person must be trained and have full understanding of the activity that they are to assess. The competent person must be trained and competent and passed out on this assessment.

Daily Vehicle Inspection (ERC5-JDCS_JCB Daily Checksheet)

  • The driver completes the daily pre-start safety inspection correctly and completes the form in full

  • Correct knowledge of Vehicle demensions and vehicle functions

  • The driver understands the correct fault reporting procedures

  • If a safety critical fault has been found, the JCB must be parked up in a safe place and ask the Factory Manager for further advice. If the driver come across a 'Do Not Operate' tag on a vehicle/trailer, they must not operate and contact the Factory Manager for further advice.

  • Driver understands how to adjust seat, mirrors, wipers, lights, etc?

  • JCB greased using the greasing points?

  • Checks in place for oil, water, etc

Site Rules / Procedures

  • Driver is site inducted and trained on SSOW7 - Use of a JCB, SSOW 2 Vehicle Movements, SSOW 23 Wash-down Bay SP13 Traffic Management Plan<br>

  • 10 Hours on the Job Training recieved

  • Read and Understand the operating Manual

  • Trained on Toolbox Talk -Work at height, Reversing Vehicles, Working with Mobile Plant, Cranes and other Lifting Machines

  • Driver adheres to on site speed limits (5 MPH)

  • Awareness of Pedestrian Routes (safe driving requirements)

  • Trained not to be struck by other vehicles or hit other vehicles

  • Health requirements to prevent Impaired driver vision or ill health

  • How to not overturn the JCB

  • Seatbelt use

  • Working in adverse weather (avoid sliding etc)

Moving Aggregates

  • Did the driver set up the exclusion zone and aware to not let persons into the JCB working area?

  • Did the driver shore up the aggregates in a safe manner?

Vehicle operations

  • Locate and state the purpose of all controls and instruments and how to use them

  • Accelorator

  • Operation of hydraulic controls, Weighing, Loading, Discharge, Cleaning and Parking

  • Steering control

  • Maneuver positions before and after turn

  • Safe reversing of the JCB

Filling the Bins with Aggregates

  • Did the driver set up the exclusion zone and aware to not let persons into the JCB working area?

  • Driver correctly fills the bins (not overloaded, correctly lowers the bucket before moving?

  • Driver pours the aggregates correctly into the bins?

Cleaning Aisles in the Factory

  • Chains off the entrances and ensures no persons in the aisle ways whilst using the JCB in the Factory

  • Drives safely in the factory?

Filling skips with concrete

  • Segregates the area from other persons

  • Safely fills the skip

Cleaning the Pit

  • Aware of the risk of falling into the pit?

  • Ensures no other persons are in the vicinity of pit cleaning

  • Cleans the pit correctly and safely transports the waste to the concrete waste skip?

JCB Cleaning

  • Cleans the internal and external of the JCB after daily use

  • Safe Use of the step ladders for cleaning? (helmet and chinstrap and doesn't use the JCB to access places at height?)

  • Windows clean and clear
