Is housekeeping acceptable

  • Sales floor free from hazards

  • Are there unattended stock pallets with no attempt to remove them

  • Outdoor areas are free from obvious litter and rubbish that could lead to slips or trips

  • Are entrance gates locked open?

Is the Yard/Warehouse surface in good condition?

  • Is the surface damaged, deteriorated or unsuitable making product storage potentially dangerous?

  • Are they potholes likely to cause FLT instability when moving stock?

  • Any tripping hazards?

  • If there are issues have they been reported and are you monitoring their progress?

Are all colleagues using the appropriate PPE?

Are colleagues aware of manual handling techniques?

  • When observing colleagues do they display good manual handling techniques?

  • Are all colleagues trained on LiFT and demonstrating that the principles have been adopted?

  • Can colleagues explain and demonstrate how correct lifting should be undertaken?

  • Are colleagues making use of all equipment to reduce the need for manual handling?

Are forklifts being operated correctly?

  • Is the correct PPE being worn e.g. lap straps, hi vis, safety shoes?

  • Is the 2 metre rule being observed?

  • Is there evidence of inappropriate behaviour e.g. keys in ignition, smoking, excessive speed?

  • Is there evidence of turning with raised forks, travelling without raising the forks sufficiently?

Is product stored safely?

  • All stock is stable and not at risk of falling

  • All stock at height is shrink wrapped to the pallet or banded <br>Note if delivered without and untouched not required e.g. cement and kitchen tops

  • In the Yard - is all pallet stock secure and not stored above the compound fence?

  • Is there sign of potential pallet collampse?

  • Pallets holding stock are in good condition and free from missing slats or blocks

  • Sales floor pallets are stacked securely with a min. of 2 layers of stock?

  • Long products are stored on suitable pallets?

  • Long or tall heavy products are sufficiently restrained to prevent falling/toppling?

  • Fence panels at height are all banded?

Is the racking free from obvious damage?

  • Are you tracking your racking inspection remedial actions?

  • Have you reviewed for obvious damage:-<br>Damage can be identified as bending or bowing of the beams and uprights. It could also relate to dislodged beams or severe rusting of joints.<br>NOTE:- Any damages must be reported and all stock unloaded immediately.

Are all fire escape routes clearly signed and accessible with directional signs in place?

  • Are all doors operational?<br>At no point should they be locked or blocked with stock or rubbish.

  • Can you get to each fire assembly point from each of the exits?<br>Hint - stand with your back to the fire door and assume you are a customer that does not know where to run.

  • Is directional signage in place and un-obstructed?<br>Note:- Directional running man is preferred

  • Is the correct furniture fitted to the door allowing it to be easily opened in an emergency?

Is vehicle loading and unloading conducted in a safe manner?

  • Do you have a Do Not Move sign in place and are all colleagues aware of the process?

  • Is the driver out of the cab in a safe location, if not is the Warehouse colleague in charge of his keys?

  • Are all FLT drivers confident to inform the delivery driver that they require a 2 metre exclusion zone and do they comply with it?

  • Are passing vehicles and pedestrians controlled?

  • If reversing is required, are banksman always in place to support?

  • If vehicles need to reverse onto the highway do you have sufficient highway trained banksman ?

  • Have you observed inappropriate unloading e.g. 2 lifts of product to a FLT movement

Is all working at height related equipment in good condition and fit for use?

  • Review all store use ladders and the aircraft steps

Are all welfare facilities in an acceptable condition?

  • Are all staircases well lit and free from stock or POS?

  • Team room/canteen should be fit for purpose. <br>Note - cupboards cleared of any contaminates, fridge in clean working order, microwave clean etc.

  • Are the toilet facilities clean with adequate supplies?<br>Please ensure both Male and Female toilets are checked, broken toilet seats are not acceptable.

  • Can you provide hot water and hand washing facilites?

  • If you have a public toilet is it maintained on a twice daily basis?
