General Health Inspection

  • Any Discolouration of the Motor?

  • Fan Cowl Intact?

  • Fan Intact And Operational?

  • Fins On Motor All Present And Clean?

  • Any Signs Of Contamination Inside Terminal Box?

  • Does The Motor Shaft Turn Freely By Hand?

Motor Electrical Tests

  • 1. Ensure electrical supply is isolated from motor and locked safely OFF for duration of test!
    2. Remove supply cables to motor - note order for correct re-connection
    3. Remove motor terminal links - note orientation for correct re-connection (Star or Delta)
    (note: if motor Star - Delta starting then there will probably be no links present)
    4. On Fluke meter insert black lead to common port and red lead to insulation port
    5. Set rotary dial to 500V
    6. Carry out test and record as follows (all results are in mOhm):-

  • Black Lead - Ground Red Lead To U1

  • Black Lead - Ground Red Lead To V1

  • Black Lead - Ground Red Lead To W1

  • Black Lead - U1 Red Lead V2

  • Black Lead - U1 Red Lead W2

  • Black Lead - V1 Red Lead U2

  • Black Lead - V1 Red Lead W2

  • Black Lead - W1 Red Lead U2

  • Black Lead - W1 Red Lead V2

  • Ensure electrical supply is isolated from cables and locked safely OFF for duration of test!

    Disconnect cables from all components at both ends - note order for correct re-connection

    On Fluke meter insert black lead to common port and red lead to resistance port
    Set rotary dial to Ω
    Carry out test and record as follows (Results are in Ohms):-

  • Black Lead U1 Red Lead U2

  • Black Lead V1 Red Lead V2

  • Black Lead W1 Red Lad W2

  • Does the motor have thermistors?

  • Test resistance of thermistors
