Describe the task

  • Turning on/off the steam room generators that serve the men's and ladies steam room via the plant room on the sun deck area.
    These facilities are normally turned on 20mins before the club opens and 20mins before the club closes.

Give clear step by step instructions

  • 1. Unlock the plant room door on the sun deck area using the key on the duty manager bunch
    2. First check that it is safe to enter the plant room - if you believe it's not then do not proceed
    3. Pic 1 - turning on the steam plant ensure that each valve is moved to the isolation position
    4. Pic 2 - switch on each steam generator 1 by 1 and observe that they are operating as normal
    5. Leave and lock the plant room door
    6. Check each steam room is safe to use and close the doors - steam will start to come through around 5mins later
    To turn off:
    1. As above in points 1-2
    2. Switch off each steam generator
    3. Open each isolation valve below the steam generators to drain the water and leave open
    4. Leave and lock the plant room door
    5. Check each steam room and leave the doors open to vent the area

Important H&S points to remember

  • 1. Only enter the plant room area if it is safe to do so
    2. Ensure each valve below each steam generator is closed before you turn on the generators
    3. Ensure each valve to each generator is opened after you switch off the steam generators to allow the water to drain off
    4. Carry a two way radio

Once completed a copy should be sent to the relevant HOD and appointed site safety representative. It is the responsibility of the HOD to ensure that all their team members complete suitable training in regards to the tasks that their team members are expected to do. It is also the responsibility of the HOD to ensure that their relevant SOPs are reviewed and updated and remain valid to the task that it relates to.
