Third Space Canary Wharf Emergency Procedures Induction

  • There are two alert messages communicated via the public address system throughout the club:

    1. Fire has been detected in the building, please wait for further instruction
    2. Fire has been detected in the building please leave the building

Message 1 - please wait for further instruction

  • Do exactly that and wait for further instruction.
    Be prepared to assist the duty manager or your department manager.
    If you are fire marshall trained then be ready to attend your duties if called upon.
    Be sure to assist any members or guests that may be concerned regards the message.

Message 2 - please leave the building

  • Do exactly that and leave the building by the nearest exit.
    As you leave please communicate to fellow team members, club members and guests to also leave.
    Lifts will not operate whilst there is a fire evacuation underway.
    The duty manager and key team members that have fire warden training will coordinate the evacuation.
    Under no circumstances should you attempt to tackle a fire unless it is in its very early stages giving consideration to your own safety and the safety of others.

Evacuation assembly point

  • The assembly point is located opposite the club on the ground floor level in front of Waitrose.
    Canary Wharf security will be in charge of the assembly point and will communicate to the fire wardens.
    Ensure that you assist where needed and remember that you are representing the club.
    If the weather is adverse then Canary Wharf security will make a decision on moving the assembly point to a dry area.

Returning to the club

  • Canary Wharf will inform the fire marshals as to when it is safe to return to the club.
    Ensure that you assist where needed and again remember that you are representing the club.
    The fire marshals will coordinate the return to the club.

Important points for all team members

  • There is a site fire risk assessment and a copy can be found on the public folder

  • Fire escape routes are checked daily by a fire warden and must be clear at all times, if you come across a blocked fire exit or have any concerns then you should raise this immediately with your department manager or site fire warden.

  • Aerosols are a risk if used outside of the changing rooms and can set off smoke detectors, the use of aerosols outside the changing rooms is strictly forbidden.

  • Toasters are a risk and will set off smoke detectors, toasters are banned from any areas outside the kitchen.

  • Microwaves and kettles must be used safely and attended to whilst in use.

  • All team members are are welcome to complete a Fire Marshall course, please see your head of department to arrange this.
