Ladder access and work area

  • Inspect ladder access is clear and safe to use with no visible signs of wear or damage on the ladder and good housekeeping in the room

  • NO LONE WORKING - proceed only if you have a competent person with you to assist

  • Upper platform area safe to use - clean and in good order

Auto belay checks - remove belay to workbench for inspection

  • Ensure adequate lighting conditions are present to carry out your inspection

  • Visually inspect auto belay casings ensuring that they are secure and in good condition

  • Remove nozzle and inspect for wear - splits - cracks

  • Inspecting the webbing including the drum (100mm inside)

  • Inspect the webbing joining shackle

  • Visually inspect mounting connections looking for any signs of wear or damage

  • Ensure that the belay is within its service date and safe to use

  • Check the general area around the belay is safe and free from any hazards

  • Clean the belay casing and return to service
