  • Cardiac rhythm generator should be set to 3rd Degree Heart Block rhythm

  • READ TO CANDIDATE: Demonstrate the procedure for cardiac pacing of an Adult patient, using the given equipment

Assessment

  • Properly applies combo patches (A/P Method preferred, either method below is acceptable) <br> <br>A/P Method-Anterior Patch with center of patch at V4 location, mid-clavicular line, Posterior Patch to Left of spine, below scapula <br> A/L Method-Anterior Patch below Right clavicle just to Right of sternum, Lateral Patch on lower rib margin with center at V6 position

  • Places monitor in Pacing mode

  • Verbalizes visualization of sensing marks on R-waves (adjusts Lead selection as necessary for appropriate sensing) <br> (If not verbalized, Evaluator may ask "How do you know the monitor is sensing the patient's rhythm?")

  • Activates Pacing

  • Verbalizes visualization of white pacing markers/spikes and increases energy until electrical capture is achieved (Pacer spike immediately in front of each QRS) <br> (If not verbalized, Evaluator may ask "How do you verify electrical capture?")

  • After capture, increases energy by 10%

  • Verifies mechanical capture by palpating for a pulse

  • Explain what was not completed safely
