Instructional Guidance

  • 1. This Vehicle Inspection Logbook will ensure the vehicle and associated equipment are checked and recorded at the start of each shift. Its objective is to provide information and guidance to the operational status of vehicles and equipment, in addition to highlighting any possible deficiencies that could affect the promulgated Hinkley Point C Fire & Rescue Service (FRS) operational requirements.

  • 2. This Inspection Logbook is to be used to record all Standard Tests carried out at station level.

  • 3. All entries must be made in accordance with an inspection type and rationale for inspection. Defective and/ or quarantined items must be submitted with a descriptive note, photo and assigned action response within the sub-section of each item.

  • 4. If the vehicle or equipment has a defect, report to your duty Crew Commander who will then decide on the vehicles operational status.

  • 5. The Fire Service Manager is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of this log; he has shared this function with the duty Officer in Charge (OiC).

  • 6.The DRIVER is responsible for carrying out a comprehensive inspection of the vehicle at the start of each watch in accordance with station policy, ensuring its roadworthiness and its ability to operate effectively in an emergency situation. Any new defects, damage, or changes to the previous status of the vehicle must be reported to the Crew Commander.

  • 7. The CREW COMMANDER is responsible for the operational readiness of the appliance, and must therefore be confident that a comprehensive inspection, in accordance with station policy (FRS Instructions) has taken place and must also be confident that the appliance can be operated effectively in an emergency situation before counter-signing the vehicle inspection logbook.

  • Note. The FRS Capability Reduction policy must be followed when notifying key stakeholders of a change in a vehicle's operational status.
