  • Purpose of this inspection procedure for various types of water storage tanks is to ensure effective and efficient sampling of the water samples as per SJ standard procedure in reference to DM-FSD-GU17 “Water system monitoring and inspection guideline in Dubai”. This procedure classifies steps to be taken onsite, after obtaining work order and agreement signed from customer. this is the execution of water tank inspection and subcontracting (EIAC) accredited lab for water samples collection and testing.

Visual Tank Inspection

  • Safe access to the tank

  • Available lighting system works properly

  • Tank condition is considered good (no rusting, no signs of corrosion or pitting)

  • Outer tank surface check for any sign of leakage or excess flow or weakness in the flow

  • No signs of separation or swelling of tank or cracks at inside/outside surface of the tank

  • Bolts, rivets and/or seams are not damaged and appear in good condition

  • Valves, flanges and gaskets are free from leaks

  • Vents are not obstructed. Ventilation’s stopcock’s works properly.

  • Nearby tank any oil, chemical or sewage leak

  • Outer Surfaces of the tanks free from dirt & birds facial

  • Opening is uncovered / door is locked

  • No any sign of algal growth around the tank opening / manhole

  • No any accumulation of dirt around the tank

  • Tank door is in good condition and seal

  • Level gauges and alarms are working properly (push button to test alarms)

  • location of the reservoir clean and away from sewage water at least or more than 10 m

  • What is the measured distance of reservoir from sewage water is (m)

  • Distribution/outlet water slots should be above or equal to 10 cm from the bottom of the tank.

  • Distance of the outlet water slots from the bottom of the tank is (cm)

  • The distance between the top surface of the tank and the water should not be less than 30 cm

  • The distance between the top surface of the tank and the water is (cm)

  • If the water tank mounted on pillars, then height from the floor should not be less than 20 cm

  • The height of water tank from the floor is (cm)

  • No signs of Sediment/ Sludge inside the tank

  • No signs of any algae growth inside the tank

  • No signs of any micro-film or oils inside the tank

  • Spill prevention equipment is maintained at tank location

  • Pipe surfaces checked for signs of leakage

  • No signs of corrosion to pipelines or pipe supports

  • Buried pipelines are not exposed

  • Out of service pipelines are capped

  • Pumps valves free from rust, no signs of corrosion or pitting

  • Inside the water tanks Ladders made/installed of stainless and non-toxic materials

  • Water outlet openings excess water with a diameter greater than the feeding diameter or at the same level

  • Any sign of tank material like paint peels off from the inner surface which transferred from the tans body to the water

  • Does any change in the water colour, taste or odor etc

  • Containment area pumps are working properly

  • Containment does not have signs of leakage

  • Containment area drainage valves are closed and are locked

  • Containment structure is free from cracks or holes

  • No standing water in containment area

  • No visible oil sheen visible in containment area (if so, water must not be drained to ground surface)
