1.0 - Safety and Occupational Health

  • 1.1 - Are there risk assessments in place for all the works taking place now and do the precautions appear to be implemented properly.

  • 1.2 - Is everyone on site wearing a safety helmet, high visibility garment, safety footwear, safety glasses and cut 3 gloves?

  • 1.3 - Are arrangements in place to control vehicle movements, particularly reversing and the segregation of pedestrians from plant?

  • 1.4 - Do all Plant Operators and drivers hold a current CPCS card for the plant they are operating and are they operating it competently?

  • 1.5 - Is construction plant in good condition without signs of defects, such as oil leaks, weld cracks, incorrect boom pin retaining clips, noisy/smoky exhausts, obvious steering and brake defects?

  • 1.6 - Does the site lifting plan cover every machine carrying out a lifting operation on the site?

  • 1.7 - Are cranes set up level with all their outriggers out?

  • 1.8 - Are all lifting operations being carried out safely?

  • 1.9 - Is there a "Permit to Penetrate" in place for all excavations?

  • 1.10 - Are excavation suitably battered or supported by a preparatory system?

  • 1.11 - Are there arrangements in place to stop persons falling from any place from which a fall could lead to injury?

  • 1.12 - Generally, are you satisfied that unauthorised persons are not erecting, altering or dismantling scaffolds, fasle-work or excavation support structures.

  • 1.13 - Are podium steps, mobile scaffolds,etc., being used in preference to ladders and stepladders?

  • 1.14 - Are all work areas and access routes tidy and clear of obstructions?

  • 1.16 - Are substances being used safely in accordance with their risk assessment?

  • 1.17 - Is PPE associated with COSHH risk assessments being worn?

  • 1.18 - Are the washing facilities clean and supplied with soap, a means of drying hands and hot & cold water?

  • 1.19 - Are the mess rooms clean and tidy?

  • 1.20. - Are the toilets clean and supplied with paper?

  • 1.21 - Are the fire precautions in place and properly maintained in accordance with the Site Fire Plan?

  • 1.22 - Is the site free of fire risk from flammable materials and packaging?

  • 1.23 - Are all Traffic Management Systems, erected as per the agreed scheme?

  • 1.24 - Are all traffic cones/signs, clean and in good conditions?

  • 1.25 - Are pedestrian routes in good order and a minimum width of 1.35m?

  • 1.26 - Are all hoardings in good condition and secure.?

  • 1.27 - If there have been any accidents or significant near misses this week have they been carefully investigated to reveal the "root cause"?

  • 1.28 - If accidents or significant near misses have been occurred has a report been sent to the Health, Safety & Environmental Protection Department?

  • 1.29 -Have Task Control Sheets Been completed and communicated to the workforce, identify who was asked during inspection to confirm this?

2.0 - Protection of the Environment

  • 2.1 - Are subcontractors aware of any restrictions on working hours?

  • 2.2 - Are access/egress and site roads clear of mud and debris?

  • 2.3 - Are works areas tidy and free of litter?

  • 2.4 - Is a concrete washout facility provided, maintained and accessible for use?

  • 2.5 - Are fuel and other substances stored in secure ares away from watercourses and site drainage?

  • 2.6 - Are measures in place to protect neighbouring properties from noise, vibration and dust?

  • 2.7 - If there is a need for dust suppression is it in place and effective?

  • 2.8 - Are waste skips and containers signed, accessible and not overfilled?

  • 2.9 - Are sub-contractors on site aware of the Site Waste Management Plan? (List sub-contractors asked)

  • 2.10 - Are measures in place to protect water courses being polluted by site activities and site run off?

  • 2.11 - If works are being undertaken near to watercourses or involving watercourses, (e.g. Drainage works) has approval been sought from the Environmental Agency?n

  • 2.12 - If protected wildlife species have been found on site are there precautions in place to protect them?

  • 2.13 - Is vegetation (trees, hedgerows, etc.) protected against damage caused by site works?
